Dear Friends near and far, new and old: This is a difficult message to write. I am asking you from the bottom of my heart for a favor. One of friendship, love, potential and positive, lasting impact. To help us move through a very difficult time. Our purpose of this to raise at least $20,000 over the next few weeks.
My husband Michael is dying of congestive heart failure. He is 60 years old. These funds will be used to pay for the ever mounting medical bills, ongoing care for him, our animals and therapeutic riding equine assisted and lesson programming we have here that helps so many others.
The tipping point came during Thanksgiving when through his own accord, his body, from even more retained fluids than ever before, started to shut down. He has developed a terrible bout of cellulitis in his leg, crippling him and he had to be again in the hospital. At this time, because of his contract style employer and me working to build my consulting firm, we do not have full health insurance. He is not paid if he does not work and if he cannot work, he also loses all of his life insurance. He also has diabetes, is very overweight, and has health issues. He’s on 10 medications a day and they are not really working.
His time has run out. I cannot fix this. I cannot love this better. I have tried. I lay awake at night listening to his breathing stop, counting and waiting for it to start again. This is not simply sleep apnea, it is far worse. I cannot think of the day when he breathing stops forever. I just ache for the day I have to tell our daughter he is gone and have to pick up the shattered pieces of her to move forward.
I have also never give up hope in the goodness of the human spirit and the innate generous nature and potential of people. We are all connected. I did not give up on my husband, he choose to give up on himself.
So, I ask again for a favor. A favor of your generosity, your contribution, friendship, thoughtfulness, caring and courage. This will make a tremendous different in the lives of others, well beyond me, so we can continue our vital work and life here, on the farm.
