Support Onatah and Ridan

Donation protected
Dear friends,

I met Ridan Calixto a few years ago when he was visiting the East Coast from Brazil and ended up at our humble community in Massachusetts where he met his wife Onatah, a dear friend of mine and beloved yoga teacher to many in the Amherst community. Over the past two years, I have come to trust Ridan as a brother; he is a man of integrity, great loyalty, and great love for God and the Mother of All. Those of you who know him will know that he is a kind, hardworking, beautiful soul, and that he offers so much to our community in the form of his music, joy and sense of humor.

About two weeks ago, a 'grande balanço'  took place in Ridan's life, from which he has been recovering with great trust and surrender. On February 23rd, Ridan went into the hospital due to extreme pain in his abdomen and all of a sudden had emergency surgery to remove a foot of his colon due to an infection that had spread throughout his abdominal cavity. Below is a letter that his wife Onatah has written which describes what happened in more detail, but those of us who are close to Ridan and Onatah have felt guided to send out a call for donations and support for these two beautiful beings. They are not only dealing with the aftermath of this surgery but are also left with very high hospital bills since Ridan is not fully insured in this interim period while his immigration status in the United States is processed after his marriage. kOn top of medical expenses, Ridan and Onatah currently live in a very beautiful, but very tiny one-room cabin in the woods in Wendell, which is only heated by wood and does not have Western plumbing. A proper bathroom is essential in this time of recovery when Ridan will need a clean and safe way to negotiate the ostomy bag  which is a temporary result of the surgery. Onatah and Ridan are in need of donations to help pay for a new apartment which will be able to accommodate the reality of recovering from such an intense surgery with ease and relative comfort. Anything you can offer to support these two amazing souls in this moment of great challenge will be so appreciated, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting our beloved friends Ridan and Onatah.

May you be blessed on your journey,
Hakim Noah

From Onatah and Ridan:

Dear family, friends and community,

It is with a tender and humble heart that I am writing to ask for your help. It is a privilege to even be able to ask, and I am so grateful for you taking the time to read our story, in the midst of so much suffering and healing that is taking place in this world.

Early Saturday morning February 23rd, my beloved husband, Ridan, woke up with intense pain in his abdomen. I took him to the emergency room, and after a CAT scan, they saw the seriousness of the situation and rushed him in an ambulance to a larger hospital at Baystate Medical in Springfield. Within a few hours we were signing papers for him to have emergency surgery. Ridan had a hole in his large intestine that had been leaking and infecting his entire abdomen and belly organs. He had a temperature of 106 when he went into surgery. The surgeon had to remove 12 inches of his colon, and created a stoma through his belly, and now he is living with an ostomy. God willing, the ostomy will be reversed with another surgery in 4 months or so. We were in such shock, and at the same time continued to pray, ask for help and guidance and felt upheld by so much love.

We are asking for any donations of money to help us at this time. We need help with many hospital and medical bills, medical supplies for his ostomy, and help to pay a higher rent to live in a new location that will be more comfortable for Ridan while he heals. Ridan is in the process of receiving his green card to live and work legally in this country. I have been trying my best to support us financially at this time. Since he is still in process, he is on very limited health insurance and unable to work.

This campaign is a prayer for help. I feel how connected we are. I feel that we are One body. We are all of the Oneness. I know when I reach my hand out, it is met. There is always a response, and for this I and we are so deeply grateful. I bow in love and recognition of your light, to all souls who are reading this. May all be blessed.

Love,

Onatah and Ridan
