Help Save The Special Needs Parrots

In memory of Beaker...
RIP Little Man.  You fought a hard battle.  In the end...so many cared.  xxoo

Beaker was found on the side of the road in his cage. His bottom beak had grown over his top beak and he was having massive seizures. He was rushed to an avian hospital and after 10 days of tests and medical assistance we had no choice but to end his suffering. Fly free baby. Please note..the banner picture is when he was first brought in. The one above was his third day in the hospital. We had thought he was improving. Unfortunately he crashed again not long after.

Our mission

Rickie's Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary of South Florida, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit rescue organization formed in the State of Florida in 2017. Our mission is to take in parrots and birds that have been abused, neglected or who are simply losing their homes. We do not judge and know that sometimes life changes force you to give up the pets that you've loved. We screen all of our fosters as well as all of our potential adopters. We place our birds only in the most qualified, loving homes. Our mission also includes education. Owning a parrot is NOT easy. They are not like dogs. However, with the proper upbringing, knowledge and commitment, they can be loving, wonderful companions. Too many people think owning a parrot is "cool" without really doing the research. Please do the research before you decide you want to bring in these highly intelligent toddlers. They are wonderful and amazing...but they are as demanding as as a two your old child..and can throw temper tantrums like one too! So, please do your research before bringing a parrot into your home. It will require some changes in your every day living and when they are given up...they mourn as much as their owners.

We also take in special needs birds as well as hospice birds. We would rather give the breeders a place to bring these babies so they have a chance at living long happy lives. There is no need to give up on a parrot with special needs. Like humans, they learn to adapt...and they do live long happy lives. Sometimes a bird is diagnosed with a problem that an owner simply can't face or afford treatment for. We will take your baby into our sanctuary, give them what they need and love them to the end!

Before you "adopt" be sure that the rescue is incorporated and has an EIN number. There are so many out there that try to do things on the sly. Not that they won't take care of the birds..but it's always good to be sure that they are legally registered. They should hold a license with the Fish and Wildlife in the area, be registered with the Secretary of State's Office (keep in mind that they can incorporate in a state other than where they are located) and they should be able to provide you with an EIN number. That number is needed in order to file their taxes each year. And if they state that they are a 501c3 they should be able to produce the letter showing their exemption.

As a public charity...we can't do what we do without your help. Your donations help with feeding, vetting and supplying whatever special needs our rescues require.  Some of our rescues come in very sick and require long hospitals stays...others just a check up and then off to loving, screened, forever homes.
