Support Ricky and Katrina's Fight

Donation protected
In the early hours of Saturday 1st July, our loyal loved, and hard-working brother, Ricky, was in a tragic accident causing severe burns to 50% of his body. He is incredibly lucky to be with us, and he is currently in the ICU at Royal Brisbane’s Hospital in a critical condition.

We've been told that this is going to be a long road ahead for him and many months in hospital to his recovery. Over the next few weeks, he is going to be fighting incredibly hard just to get through the many risks involved with such horrific injuries. He'll be undergoing many surgeries and skin grafts as a step on his road to recovery for the cheeky larrikin we all love so much. He's currently in an induced coma to keep him stable at the moment and he cannot be transferred to Victoria for at least 8-12 weeks at this stage.

Many of you also know that our amazing Mum has been diagnosed with MDS, a very rare blood cancer, which requires her to have a Bone Marrow Transplant which is scheduled for September which is her potential cure. This all came after she had a major operation to remove her spleen to give her a better chance of survival.
Jemma, our sister, has written some words about "The Journey" and it sums up beautifully her perspective about this. See the 'PS' section at the end of this page for the link.

We thought we had everything planned out for the next six months in order for us to best support her through this difficult procedure but our world changed once again on Saturday morning.

Everyone who knows our family will know that we are going to be here every step of the way for both Ricky and Mum, however in order to do that we are going to need to accept support from all of our family and friends. Both Ricky and Mum are going to need full-time care for many months and in separate states of Australia, requiring us all to have time off work for an extended amount of time.

If you know Mum and Ricky you will be well aware that they are the kind of people who would never ask for help or money as they are usually the ones dishing it out. We are not ones to ask for help either; however, we know we can’t do this alone.

Our biggest concern, aside from Ricky and our Mum’s health and survival, is the financial strain we will be battling. Currently, Tamara and Jemma (sisters) are in Brisbane with Ricky to be by his side, and we aim to have the rest of the family there by the end of the week (pending Mum’s health). Any financial support that can be offered will be gratefully accepted as we need to purchase flights, find long-term accommodation (in Brisbane and Melbourne), keep all of our day-to-day expenses covered such as bills, food, along with other repayments.

We know we can do this because that is what we do best. We are a strong and resilient family and will always be there for each other. We thank you in advance for the many ways in which you will be there for us and for the privacy you will offer Ricky and our family as we endure this journey. We will do our best to keep you informed on Ricky and Mums progress with updates on this page.

All donations will go to a new bank account we've setup which only our family have access to. The funds are to assist only Ricky, Katrina and immediate family during this trying time.

Hug your family members often.
Laugh, so you don’t cry and just breathe.

A message from our family to yours. xx
