Richmond Bike Park: FINAL SPRINT
Updated May 7, 2018
The East Bay is about to get its first public bike park: Dirt World!
The 2.1-acre park will feature four jump lines, a BMX track, pump tracks, and an MTB skills course. In other words, it's gonna be awesome.
Action Sports Construction, one of the top bike park/race course builders, is handling the design and construction, with an assist from local volunteers. Construction started in March and the final phase of dirt shaping and sculpting will run from May 29, 2018 through mid-June. Then we will be riding!
We are looking for your donations to cover labor, equipment rental, and diesel costs. Please donate, if you can.
Richmond is a tough urban community -- about 20 percent of the population lives below the poverty line -- with a shortage of recreational space for youths and families. Dirt World is about more than railing berms and hitting jumps. It's about transforming our city. It's about taking a trash-strewn empty lot and turningit into an outdoor oasis. It's about giving the young people of Richmond a chance to participate in a positive and challenging sport.
This is step towards getting more youths -- particularly working class kids and youth of color -- out on bikes.
We hope you can help.
We are on the Richmond Greenway, between 20th and 23rd streets, and Chanslor and Ohio avenues. The McVittie Post Office Annex is a good landmark.
See you in the dirt!
