Richard's Medical Expenses

April 5, 2017, Richard and Marsha were driving home from dinner when they unknowingly drove upon two rival drug dealers having a shootout while driving down the road. The first bullet went through the front window and missed both of them...the second struck Richard in the head. He was rushed to the hospital and had a surgery to stop the bleeding and remove part of his skull cap but they were unable to remove the bullet. The doctors said he wouldn't make it through the night. He had numerous complications initially, especially with the severe brain swelling. However, Richard is still with us and fighting harder than ever. 

He is currently still in a coma and hooked up to a ventilator. We have seen some hopeful signs that he will wake up and be able to be weaned off the ventilator, however, brain injuries are unpredictable. We are still asking for prayers for his healing and recovery. 

The next steps in his care include a long term acute care facility that will attempt to wean him off the ventilator. We also hope that he will wake up out of a coma during this time. Although we do not know the extent of the damage due to the bullet and secondary swelling, our best guess is possible complete left sided paralysis, visual deficits, and a risk of severe infections for life. He will likely be transferred to a rehab facility for these issues once awake and breathing on his own. We are hoping to raise enough money to help with some of the initial hospital expenses and the future rehab as well. We appreciate all the support and prayers we have received thus far. He is continuing to fight and for those of you that know Richard, you know how much he loves life and is eager to joke with his family and friends again.
