Ji'Aire Lee was born on August the 22nd, 2011. Ji'Aire was a very handsome and bright youngman. He loved his family, and his family loved him. He had a host of friends and community members that loved and admired him as wel. Unfortunately on May 22nd 2015 his precious life was taken from us.
Do to the lack of help and resources for those who are suffering from a mental illness, Ji'Aire's life was lost unnecessarily. His mother had suffered a Mental Illness and was seeking treatment, but do to laws, resources and funding that help came to late. As a mother and grandmother I contacted all the important agencies, such as Housing, Mental Health Services and the Dept. of Social Services. None of these agencies was able to give my famiy the help that was needed. There were  times inwhich I wanted to have more of a supervisory role over my daughter and grandson's care, but by law I had no rights.
Ji'Aire's Law will enable family and friends that have a loved one who is suffering from a Mental Illness the right to assist that person and their child until they are able to manage life for themselves, if that is posibble. Ji'Aire's Law will also establish Mental Health Courts in the state of MD, which at present time has none. Many times those who suffer from a Mental Illness suffer alone and in silence. My goal is to take the stigma off of Mental Illnesses, and give the Mentally Ill a chance at a productive life. Mental Illness is no different then any other illness, such as cancer, high-blood pressure or diabetes. It's an illness and for some they can be treated and are able to lead very productive lives.
This cannot and will not happen without community support and resources. My goal is to reach out to as many people as possible to bring Mental Health Awareness and Wellness into our communities. I will use whatever money I collect to get Ji'Aire's Law passed in the Maryland General Assembly. I have to get  copies of my petition, recruit help to hand out petitions and flyers, I have someone working on a Ji'Aire's Law webpage, I also need transportation and gas to make it back and forth to Annapolis while Ji'Aire's Law is in Committee.  The remaining  funds will be used as start- up capital for my Non-Profit, the Simms-Lee Fund. The Simms-Lee Fund will be able to sponsor fundraisers , apply for  government grants, and solicit  business support to assist those who are suffering from a Mental Illness.
I ask that you please take some time to write your Maryland state government officials and show your support of Ji'Aire's Law, it goes into committee on Febuary 16, 2016 at 1pm.  It's not to late to help save the life of another that maybe suffering in darkness from a Mental Illness. There's 1 in 4 people in the United States who's suffering from a Mental Illness, so this touches almost everyone. So,  Please go to Change.org and sign my petition. Thank you in advance. Ji'Aire Lee Never Gone, Nor Forgotten.
