THE GOAL: To raise £1,000 to provide reusable sanitary pads to 100 girls at Lake Malawi Secondary School in Malawi, Africa.

Thousands of girls in Malawi miss school every day because they are menstruating. There are no adequate sanitation facilities for them and they do not have funds to buy disposable sanitary pads. A pack of locally made sanitary pads costs £10 and will last each girl 4 years.

Trinitas Mhango is local community women that owns a small company in Malawi that makes reusable sanitary pads. She dreams of supplying 'Tina Pads' to all the girls in Malawi so not another school day is missed.

This money will go to purchasing 'Tina Pads' for all the girls at Lake Malawi Secondary School!

SECONDARY GOAL: To raise £1,500 to send 40 students from Rainbow Hope Secondary School in Malawi, Africa on safari.

If we are able to raise more than £1,000 we will use the additional money to send the final year students at Rainbow Hope Secondary School to visit Liwonde National Park, where they will go on a day safari and take part in a conservation workshop. Even though they live and go to school so close by none of the students have been on safari before so it would be an incredible opportunity for them and something they can look forward to once they complete their end of year exams.

This fall We Are Travel Girls is taking a group of women to Malawi on a Safari & Charity trip with The Responsible Safari Company. Part of the trip will be spent mentoring students at both of these Malawi schools. The money we raise with this campaign will help us give back to the community as part of this amazing charity trip. Thank you for helping us help underprivileged students in Malawi!

Thank you all again so much for donating and helping us reach our fundraising goal for The Sanitary Pad Project! Last week we returned from our first We Are Travel Girls impact trip to Malawi and had the opportunity to see firsthand where the money we all raised is going.

The final year students at Rainbow Hope Secondary School were so touched by our support that they spent the entire day at school (on a non school day) waiting for us to arrive, with drawings they made for us, and inspirational songs and dances they prepared for us as a thank you. I have tears in my eyes as I type this. It is hard to explain in words how much this money impacted their lives. They literally have nothing (only wood desks and nothing on the walls in their classrooms) so our donations were life changing for them. Thank you so much to all of you for donating and making this possible!

We spent an afternoon at Rainbow Hope Secondary School while Trinitas of Tina Pas handed out the reusable sanitary pads we raised money to produce and gave instructions on reusable sanitary pad use and care, along with a sexual education talk. Both girls and boys attended and we were in awe of how mature the students were when discussing something that is typically very embarrassing. They spoke up, shared stories, supported each other and the girls were visibly thankful for receiving reusable sanitary pads.

We also presented the students with their safari gift certificate for their graduation present and they were very SO excited and appreciative! I am only able to post a few photos from our day at Rainbow Hope School to this update but if you'd like to see more coverage of our time there please check out our Instagram Stories at these links:

P.S. As I mentioned above Rainbow Hope School along with the other schools in the Mangochi community are in desperate needs of supplies so we are going to launch another fundraiser to help buy them books, supplies and computers. I will post and update with the link to this fundraiser when it goes so that you can donate and help pass on the word, if you feel compelled.

Thank you so much to all of you for donating and helping us reach our fundraising goal for The Sanitary Pad Project! We Are Travel Girls also wants to thank Ashley Chase, Ashley Weiss and Jess Primavera who each created their own campaigns to raise additional funds. With additional funding from these campaigns we have raised together in total over $10,00 USD so far!

Our original goal was just £2,500 so it is amazing that we have raised this extra money as Trinitas, the founder of Tina Pads, has identified 5,000 girls in particular areas of the country that are in desperate need of education and suitable sanitary products. They are currently using rags which they try and rinse and stay at home each day of their cycle therefore missing a lot of school days. With the additional funds we have raised Trinitas will be able to help provide education to some of these girls as well as sanitary pads.

I am attaching some photos Trinitas wanted us to share with all of you. We will get to meet her at Rainbow Hope Secondary School during our We Are Travel Girls Charity Trip to Malawi. She will be handing out the sanitary pads and doing a training session. It will be incredible to see, in person, how much your donations are helping school girls across Malawi!

Thank you again to all of you for helping us raise funds for this amazing cause. We are honored to be able to make such a big impact with this trip to Malawi and we could not have done it without each and every one of you. Thank you all for caring and helping!
