I am Reuben Fisher and I live in Dakota City, Iowa with my wife Marnetta Fisher and my three children Gabriella (8), Meggann (5), and Jaxon (2). I operate my own business, Fisher Custom Cues, hand making custom pool cues. My hobbies include woodworking, gardening, billiards, and golf.
In 2009, at the age of 32, I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease and have been on the transplant list ever since. One week ago today, I received a call to let me know that I was third on the list. It was a surreal feeling to know that after 6 1/2 years of patiently waiting, it may be happening soon. Little did we know that I would receive a call the very next morning letting me know that the kidney is mine. To go from 3rd to 1st so quickly could only have happened by the grace of God.
We rushed to Sioux Falls, prepped for surgery and underwent a 6 hour life saving surgery to receive the kidney. The surgery went great and they are very hopeful that the kidney will begin functioning soon. I spent 4 days in the hospital and am now staying in hospital apartments for the next 2 to 3 weeks while I undergo more testing and continue my recovery.
Organ donation has been something that I have always been a strong supporter of and even more so since my brother passed away 3 1/2 years ago. He was an organ donor and was able to leave a life changing impact on others. To have it come full circle and to be on the receiving end of organ donation is a huge blessing. I am forever grateful to the donor and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during their loss.
Although my road to recovery is long, I am beyond blessed to have received this transplant and I have a new lease on life.
I am raising this money to help pay for medical bills, recovery and lodging expenses, and for the day to day house hold bills and expenses while I am away from work.
The funds will be needed now and for the next 6 to 12 months while I have extensive anti-rejection medications, testing, and numerous trips to Sioux Falls for doctor appointments.
Any help from this GO FUND ME page will be a blessing and will help me keep up with bills, expenses and the children's activities.
