My name is Lisa Natoli (Iron Fanny), I’ve been a professional dance / aerial performer and instructor for over 10 years, active in New York, Denver, St. Louis, New Orleans, Kansas City, El Paso, and other cities. Contributions to this campaign will help sustain and support my new and continuing artistic endeavors in the coming year.
2018 was a year of change for me. I left my job as lead aerial instructor in Minneapolis to pursue making new work and teaching workshops, and to allow more time for continuing education. I submitted to festivals, performed a rope duet with Elizabeth Munn at The Minneapolis Burlesque Festival, and a new piece at the first annual Crescent City Burlesque Festival. I premiered a solo work-in-progress show in Denver, sponsored by the Rainbow Militia.
The funds raised here will allow me to level up and put all this know-how on the road in the form of a traveling piece that will incorporate local performers in an ever-changing, constantly evolving experience. The regional inflections of the cities, spaces, and audiences are invited into the work itself, suffusing it with a relevancy that can’t be imposed from the outside. The work is experiemental, with a volatile sense of being and a deviant sense of amusement that makes for so much weird magic and opens us to a shared experience.
As I prepare for this endeavor, I’m asking friends, family, and advocates of independent art to consider donating in support of this roaming artists residency. Anything helps, and your generous donations will defer the costs of transportation, food, lodging, costumes, props, continuing education and the support of the other contributing artists.
