An Official StMartin Fundraising

$38,178 of $100,000 goal

Raised by 466 people in 14 months
"The SXM Festival GoFundMe is a fundraising effort for Saint Martin relief and the only one that the St. Maarten tourist bureau can officially support at this time. We have a memorandum of understanding with SXM Festival and a longstanding relationship; they are registered in St Martin and we are in constant contact regarding the needs and logistics of the island. The outpouring of support so far has been extraordinary, but we urge other GoFundMe pages to consolidate with SXM Festival in order to maximise and best utilise donations."

Rolando Brison
Director of Sint Maarten Tourist Bureau

Imagine the worse possible scenario, and it is WORSE than that...

IRMA, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded, has left a path of devastation in the Caribbean and continues to threaten many more communities. The full force of IRMA was felt as the eye passed over Saint Martin, the pearl of the Caribbean. Our hearts are with everyone who has been affected by this massive storm and to those who are in her path. At this time we are concentrating our efforts in raising funds to assist with the basic needs of our brothers and sisters on Saint Martin as we are intimately connected to the people and the island.

The damage has been monumental as 95% of the infrastructure has been reported destroyed. There is another storm developing in the wake of IRMA and the people are vulnerable. There are no electricity or water services and no radio. In association with the Dutch and French tourism boards on the island, our fundraising will be directed to where it is needed most. As the official fundraising campaign we are in close touch with the government to assess their needs. We ask for your help and generosity now and as we continue to support the island through it's reconstruction.

Our goal has always been to bring joy and love to this special island and now we need to do this more than ever. We have had so much support from Saint Martin to build our dream festival and now it is our turn to help. Please like, love and share widely. If you  have any supplies you can offer please contact us directly to help.

Hello everyone!!

I finally made it to Saint Martin! The island is recuperating and looks way better then it did a couple month ago, it seems that its on the road to recovery. During my trip I met with many people and we sat down with the team and decided what we would do with the funds donated here!

We will buy 5000 USD of school gear to one school in need on the French side and one school on the Dutch side for a total of 10 000 USD. Because of the fact that playing is very important for kids, we will fix 2 basketball courts on each side on the island for a total of 4 which will cost 10 000USD. New rims, painted lines and back boards. If we have a little more money well also buy a couple new pro balls. This sport is very important to the country and part of the social life and although its good for the youth, it transcends all ages!

I also met a psychologist that told me that the biggest trauma for the kids is that the most popular beaches have not been cleaned up yet and the kids are very sad about it. We hired locals and a company with the necessary machinery to do so. We started cleaning up Sandy Ground Beach and will restore it in the next couple days. We will also pick a beach on the Dutch side and do the same intervention and the budget is 4000 USD per beach for a total of 8000USD.

Total of 28K USD, please note that we did raise the money in Canadian Dollars and the exchange rate is around 1,25 Canadian for a US Dollar so it gives us about 29 000 USD to spend. We probably will throw a kids party at the end and show the kids a good time through a local foundation who are amazing at that! Will give the update a bit later when the time comes.

The invoices/receipts - press articles and pictures will be posted here in the next weeks.

Thank you so much for your generosity and your patience!! The best donation you could make is to plan a visit to SXM next year. The locals are missing you guys and the Friendly Island awaits your return!

Warm Regards,

Julian

Dear friends of St Martin.

Thank you for your participation in our fundraising campaign. We appreciate that so many have contributed to help in the recovery of our wonderful island of Saint Martin. We have been waiting for the situation on the ground to stabilize. Associations are being set up to determine the best way to use your funds. We will propose a plan shortly and it is our intention to use every dollar in the best possible way. Our goal is to direct the funds to help the children of St. Martin. Any expenses and actions will be justified and published for complete transparency. We thank you again with all of our hearts for your incredible generosity.

Yours,

The SXM Festival team.
