Removal of the Killer Tree

This is the oak tree that is threatening to kill somebody. It's what they call a "widowmaker".  It is ginormous, and it has been dropping huge dead branches into the yard. I just had a tree expert come out and tell me that it is extremely dangerous. It is half dead, and all of the weight at this point (and it's an oak, which means it's REALLY heavy) is on the side by the house. When it comes down, (which could happen at any time..it's sort of a ticking time bomb)  it's going to come down on our house/barn/cistern/septic and if that happens, we will be truly and completely screwed.  Since it has been dropping dead limbs pretty much willy-nilly, there is also the very real possibility that one of us could get killed just mowing the back yard.

We can't afford to live anywhere else. If our house gets smashed, we're pretty much on the street. We rent from the National Park, and they do not have the resources to help us take this tree down. The estimate to remove it is $1,500.  We are trying to hold off cutting it until September, because the park prefers that there be no tree cutting between March and September because of the bats., but we are honestly so terrified of this dangerous tree, that we will have it removed as soon as we can raise the funds.
