Remembering the Yazidi Genocide

Tax deductible
On August 3, 2014, ISIS fighters attacked the city of Sinjar in Iraq. Their goal was to convert or kill the Yazidi citizens of Sinjar. The Yazidis are an ethno-religious minority group in Iraq and Syria.

ISIS militants killed hundreds of Yazidis on the first day of their attack. In the following weeks and months, hundreds of thousands of Yazidis were forced to flee their homes--and they were the lucky ones.

Many thousands of men, women, and children were killed in horrific ways including mass shootings, burnings, and live burials. By the end of August 2014, as many as 7,000 women and girls were forced into sexual slavery.

This attack on the Yazidi community has been classified as a genocide by the United Nations, the European Parliament, and the United States. Five years later, we are living in dangerous and divisive times and it is more important than ever that we reflect on how genocide happens and how to prevent it, as well as to remember those whose lives ended violently and mercilessly at the hands of terrorists.

Chira Global Development Organization will be hosting a remembrance event in Fargo, North Dakota, on Sunday, August 4, 2019. We are bringing in Yazidi leaders and other experts to Fargo from across the US and Canada to help us remember the past and protect the future.

Please help support this important work by making a donation. We will be assisting with the travel costs of our speakers, and providing food for our guests.
