Remembering Justin Roper

Donation protected
Justin had myotonic dystrophy.  A very rare muscular disease  that results in increasing weakening and breakdown of skeletal muscles over time.  He lost his father  to the disease a few years ago.

Justin was a young man who aspired to play in many sports despite his disability.  He loved Basketball the most. Justin was a member of the Brentwood Hawks Special Olympics Basketball Team. In 2017 he helped the Hawks earn the Gold medal.  In 2018 he played and the Hawks earned the Silver medal.  Justin also played baseball and excelled at bowling.

Justin was funny, always happy and loved playing video games with his friends.  Ok, the truth is, he loved talking smack and taking names.  Watching him play with his friends brought so much joy not only to my heart, but to anyone in the room.  He was always fun, always happy and excelled in all he did.

On Monday, April 9, 2018  Justin was playing basketball at Freedom High School in Oakley, CA,  in his  regular  physical education class when he died.  He did not feel well, dropped to his knees and could not be revived.  The shock to his family and friends has been overwhelming.   This news broke my heart.

Justin was preparing to graduate from Freedom High and attend Camp Harmon, Easter Seals camp with his friends.

Justin leaves behind his loving Mom Shannon, his sister Elizabeth, two sets of grandparents, one Ma and an unending host of friends - all of whom will miss the bright light of smiles and fun that was Justin Roper.

We are seeking donations for final expenses.  Justin's Mother Shannon Roper will be handling his final expenses.  We are seeking to send Justin home next week.  If we could meet our goal on or before April 20, 2018 that would be more than a great help and blessing to Justin's family.
