AlyssaSialaris Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of this fund is to reach $50,000 by April 2018 to create the Alyssa Sialaris Whittier College Endowment Fund. (In the past 4 years we've privately raised nearly $25K) We would like to make something positive come out of the tragedy of losing our daughter. By reaching this $50K base goal, we will forever keep Alyssa's memory alive while providing a yearly scholarship for other like-minded student-athletes' educations.
Five weeks before her graduation, on April 3, 2013, our beautiful daughter and sister tragically passed away of natural causes at the young age of 21.
Alyssa was an amazing dual sport scholar-athlete majoring in kinesiology/nutrition sciences. She fell in love with "Everything Whittier" and had extremely special bonds with her professors, coaches, friends and teamsmates. They've shared with us many stories of what an inspiring, passionate, funny person Lyss was. She was an active member of the community, and was proud of her work at a local elementary school where she volunteered over 200 hours running a PE program and working with children in a second language reading program.
When Whittier College and Alyssa's coaches suggested creating this fund, we immediately knew this was the perfect way to honor her memory. We know her experience at Whittier was deeply meaningful to her. She would be thrilled to know that through her passing she is still able to be a source of support, inspiration and hope for other student-athletes.

Today is Alyssa's 26th birthday!!! Please join us in celebrating our crazy, adventurous, fun-loving beautiful girl by taking a moment to hold this beautiful soul in your thoughts and sending a little love to her in the heavens.
In our usual fashion, on this special day we are sharing her GFM page in hopes that it will inspire you to remember and celebrate Lyss by making a donation to her scholarship fund and by sharing it with everyone in your lives. Please help us make this birthday present her biggest yet!! (Hey, just realized, she's 26, and we're just shy of $26K!)
We're nearing the end of our campaign, as April 3 will be Alyssa's 5 year anniversary. Our mission has been to raise the $50K base fund. Rest assured, your donations to help us get as close as possible to that number MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE, and the Alyssa Sialaris 2013 Endowment Fund WILL BE ESTABLISHED in 2018!!
With much love, thanks, and appreciation,
Alyssa's family <3
We're so excited and extremely blessed!! Over the last nine months, all of you have made a huge impact on Alyssa's GoFundMe campaign with donations totaling $7,300!! With your generosity, and the generosity of others outside of GoFundMe, this brings Her Endowment fund grand-total up to just over $20,000!! We're almost half way there!!!!
PLEASE DON'T STOP NOW!!
THIS CAMPAIGN MUST GO BEYOND ALL OF US!!!
GoFundMe's #1 suggestion for a successful fundraiser is by, "Sharing, sharing and more sharing of the campaign on Facebook, email and other social media." Their # 2 suggestion is, "Be sure to add a personalized message when sharing, explaining why donating to this campaign means so much to you or people you know - a simple, direct, and heartfelt message is most appealing."
This is why we look to all of you, once again, for your continued support. We humbly ask our family, friends, and friends of friends to take a minute to keep the momentum moving forward by "Sharing" Alyssa's campaign with all the people you know. Remember to keep GoFundMe's #1 & #2 suggestions in mind.
LET'S CREATE "THE RIPPLE EFFECT" and remind people that by donating and sharing they can make a huge impact on making this goal into a REALITY!
Remember, many companies match employees donations, or are looking for worthy causes of which to contribute. If you know of such an organization, please contact me, and I can provide a Tax ID # to Whittier. Furthermore, Gus and I would welcome any opportunity to forward our own funds to you, in lieu of "you" making such a donation through your company, to apply towards whatever amount they are willing to match on "your behalf".
Although we've lost one of our spirited, beautiful daughters, God has blessed us with loving family and friends to see us through our darkest moments, as well as to bring us happiness and laughter! We love all of you and thank you for your kind and thoughtful support, love and prayers.
As many of you know, three years ago this week, our family received the devastating news that Alyssa, our beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin was Gone.
After a six month autopsy, the coroner reported they couldn’t find ANYTHING that lead to her death. They believe, “sudden cardiac death due to probable cardiac arrhythmia was the probable cause of death”.
We will never understand how a healthy, and I mean extremely strong and healthy 4 time All American athletic 21 year old girl can just suddenly pass away? How can her heart just stop?
As parents who lost a child, we want closure. We need to feel that Alyssa’s passing was for a reason: that it has earthly meaning; that with a cause of death we may be able to educate other young athletes and warn their parents of the dangers that lurk within their children. If we knew what happened to Alyssa, we could raise awareness and prevent “THIS” from happening to others, and hopefully save lives. But we don’t know WHAT happened to her. There is nothing “to prevent from happening”. Where do we place our focus?
We have decided to put our focus on what we do know, and that is that Alyssa LOVED ATTENDING WHITTIER COLLEGE and living in Whittier. We know she had experiences of a lifetime while she was there. Everyone at Whittier, from friends, faculty, coaches, parents and acquaintances to people who attended the college but didn't personally know Alyssa, shared with us at her Memorial Candle Light Vigil, stories of how Alyssa had an impact on their lives. She was A FORCE on campus. Perhaps that was her purpose. To be an inspiration and role model. To have courage to stand up and be a voice for those who couldn't.
We wanted to somehow honor our beautiful daughter’s memory. We knew it had to be in the form of something that was meaningful and dear to her heart. So, we have decided to place our focus on (still) helping other scholar student-athletes, but doing so by providing a yearly scholarship in Alyssa’s name, honor, and memory. What an amazing way to keep Alyssa’s memory alive!!
In April, 2013 the “Alyssa Sialaris Endowment Fund” was started at Whittier College. To date, we have raised nearly $20,000 and we have until 2017 to reach the goal. )
We invite all of you to learn more about Alyssa and to share with us today the memory of our girl, by visiting the links below. We’d be grateful beyond words if you found it in your hearts to make a donation, share our story with your family and friends, and help us spread the word to reach the $50,000. Every dime donated gets us that much closer to our goal. (If you know of a company or organization that makes such donations, or matches donations, please let us know, and we can provide the WC tax ID form.)
We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued love and support you’ve shown us over the course of these last three years.
Through our darkest moments, you have all been kind and loving, keeping Alyssa and our family in your hearts and prayers. For that, we will always be grateful. <3
