Dear Friends, Family, and Generous Bystanders,

Addressing the sexual assault victim epidemic, we want to provide opportunities for education, therapy, and expression to those who are victims or potential victims of sexual assault in the Wenatchee Valley. We plan to offer expression through art, music, and theater using local artists partnering with counselors to help victims and their road to recovery.

We have a series of local artists lined up to host art and sound therapy sessions leading up to a local production of stories of sexual assault and the road to recovery in the form of Rejada, the #metoo monologues. For each session we hope to have a counselor present to be available for any additional healing that needs to occur during one of our sessions. We plan to host events throughout the community in a variety of venues both inside and outside (with some Spanish translations available) to make healing accessible to all of our diverse community.

The monologues will be in a similar vein of the Vagina Monologues, by the groundbreaking feminist and activist, Eve Ensler, however we want to acknowledge that sexual assault can happen to everyone not just those with a vagina, which has led us down a different road.

Each event will be by donation only, and any donations collected will be given to support local charities that are resources for victims of sexual assault, such as the YWCA, Women's Resource Center, SAGE (Safety, Advocacy, Growth, Empowerment), and Planned Parenthood.

In addition to our therapy sessions, we would like to create a PG-13 production of the #metoo monologues to serve as an educational opportunity to share local resources with High School Seniors in the Wenatchee Watershed. The majority of victims are under the age of 30, and we want to do everything possible to prevent this possibility, and provide support if it does.

Our goal is to provide a safe safe and outlet for people faced with sexual violence and assault regardless of gender. Often, seeking therapy after a traumatic event can be emotionally difficult, not only to find an affordable option, but also to find a source of therapy that feels safe and approachable.  We hope to provide alternative and free options for victims.

This is where you come in. We have developed a budget that provides space for a venue, art supplies, counselors, advertising, and a small stipend for both artists and counselors for their efforts. The indicated amount would provide 9 free art sessions with available counselors, help develop and support a website for victims to share stories, and put on a local performance of #metoo monologues for shared stories victims and their road to recovery.

This program will help a community begin heal from the generations of internalized patriarchal misogyny that allows sexual violence to continue. It is estimated that one in three women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime-- that is absurdly high, can you imagine if there were a one in three chance that you would die from cancer?? (we also know that any statistic measuring rape/assault is a low estimate because women and especially men are still shamed out of discussing these issues). We want to get these conversations started and show people that the first step to curbing sexual violence is bringing it into the light. The #metoo movement has demonstrated this on a national scale. But it isn’t enough, for true healing to occur people need more than just a one-time hashtag announcement- it has to become an everyday, ongoing dialogue. Many women and men may still choose to not share their stories of sexual violence, and that is completely fine, but hearing from other's experiences in a community setting will let them know that they are not alone in what they are feeling and that if they do need outside support, it is there for them.

Please help make this possible in our community, and help our society to heal. We believe, not only in the victims, but in the ability to heal and create change.

Thanks for your help!

Hugs and Healing,

Katie Tackman
