Hi, my name is Reise. I am a 17-year-old just out of high school.
To tell you a bit about myself, I love music and arts, and I play the guitar, although I would consider myself a second-rate musician. I enjoy finding light-hearted thoughts and humor in otherwise difficult situations, although I would consider myself a third-rate comedian. I adore adventure, trying new things, and exploring new places. Overall, I would consider myself a first-rate mischievous kid. ;)
Over the last three summers, I have performed literature evangelism. You can read some of my adventures here and here.
I have seen time and time again what God is able to do through me. From seeing people touched by (more or less unwilling) witnessing to people in an airport to watching a crowd gather to sign up for baptism after preaching for an evangelistic series, I have been humbled time and time again by how He has used me to reach out to His other children (I think of the “treasure in earthen vessels” idea).
Nonetheless, I, like many, still have my spiritual difficulties. Sometimes, I find it difficult to really grasp the idea of God’s love. Sometimes, there are questions in my mind that obstruct my willingness to approach God.
Some of the resources that I have helped me with my spiritual struggles were the materials produced by Light Bearers. After listening to even a few sermons and videos, I thought “Woah, I have never thought of God like this before.” They present God in such a loving and refreshing way. Here are some of their productions: an awesome video, one of my favorite sermons, and a great article. I have gone through so much of their media and literature, and I crave to get more of this picture of a loving God that they present.
Fortunately, I can. When I heard that they offered a discipleship course, I immediately knew that I wanted to go. I knew that there is where I could know Jesus even more. You can watch a video about ARISE here.
At the program, I would be able to study the Bible from many great teachers like David Asscherick & Ty Gibson. I would learn to give Bible studies and deepen my understanding of SDA doctrines. I would learn over 80 verses to aid my understanding and sharing ability. I would be able to grow in a community of others who are also seeking to learn more about God and can encourage me in my journey.
Almost a year later, I am still excited and desire to go to ARISE. In fact, I have already been accepted, which is a miracle in itself (I had to receive an exception because I am too young). And now all I need is to find a way to cover expenses. Maybe I should make a GoFundMe?
So here is the whole financial situation:
Tuition is $4,500
Required books are $75
Gas to get there is estimated $250
The total is approximately $4,825
I am looking for a summer job to be able to be able to contribute myself, but I am having difficulty finding one. Nonetheless, I will continue to apply and search for one.
