My name is Steve McCue and I am a qualified and experienced dyslexic dyslexia and inclusion specialist and social entrepreneur. I am the founder of the first dyslexia focussed social enterprise in the world Dyslexia Pathways CIC.
My organisation is a registered not for profit community interest company registration number: SC362508.
I recently experienced two heart attacks which I am recovering from. They came out of the blue. I have never smoked and I don't drink at all. But both my mum and dad had heart problems. I had two stents fitted and am now undergoing cardiac rehabilitation.
I am now going to the gym twice a week and would like to do more to aid my cardiac rehab. I would like to try something more challenging at the and attend a more sporty session that lasts an hour and a half. It includes racket and ball sports. Problem it's more expensive. It will put the costs up to £10 a week a sum I cannot afford.
Unfortunately, the heart attacks meant I was unable to work for 7 months. During that time I had no income. It will take a lot more than heart attacks stop my passion for dyslexia and neuro diversity.
This appeal is designed support my cardiac rehabilitation. As well as enable me to keep on doing the dyslexia work I love doing which is supporting and growing the dyslexic community in our empowering and innovative way and continue to spread our social model of dyslexia and social enterprise ethos.
I have been teaching and providing specialist learning support for dyslexc, disabled and neuro diverse students at colleges and universities for 23 years now. Support me and enable me to continue to do so.
I am now woking two days a week supporting dyslexic university students. I have also got a new business mentor and writing a new business plan.
I left school 1974 with no qualifications at all. If anyone had told me I had any academic potential then I would have laughed in their face.
In 1987 I went back to school. Started with my basic skills, got my BSc Hon degree in 1994. In 1995 I gained my Specialist Inclusion teaching qualification and became a specialist teacher. Then in 1998 I became a dyslexia specialist.
Nobody was more surprised than me when I discovered I had academic potential. Especially since I left school with no qualifications. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would become a successful dyslexia and inclusiuon specialist
In 2009 I changed career and became a social entrepreneur and founded Dyslexia Pathways CIC. I won a Scottish government social entrepreneur award in 2009
My organisation has a positive and empowering social model of dyslexia together with social enterprise approach offers dyslexics world wide a more positive and empowering vision for dyslexics. The social model of dyslexia was developed by dyslexics for dyslexics.
My vision is to promote positive change for dyslexics through the social model of dyslexia and social enterprise.
My goal to promote a more positive profile of dyslexia and develop and promote a positive dyslexic culture, one that focusses on what we can do and achieve. It is often said that dyslexia is a hidden disability. I say being dyslexic is about hidden abilities and diversity. I challenge a medical / discrepency model of dyslexia which tells us we are disabled, that we are broken in some way.

Which Model do you prefer?
The social model of dyslexia tells us dyslexia is about diversity and difference. Maybe that's why 35% of entrepreneurs are dyslexic. We have been trying to solve the issues we face using terminology and ideas that in my view do not fit or work for us. The idea that dyslexia is a disability is imposed upon us by non dyslexic thinking.
We have to stop thinking in terms of disability, and focus on the idea that dyslexia is about diversity and difference. If we are going to build a community do we want one based on a medical discrepency model vision or social model of dyslexia vision? I vote social model of dyslexia. what would you vote for?

Deseigned and delivered countless dyslexia and disability awareness training sessions. Including training all staff at colleges
Designed and managed the Unique Dyslexic Get Creative project
My dyslexia blog has had over 150.000 reads
Provided free on line advice, guidance and support to dyslexics from across the world
Unique Dyslexic Get Creative had 50 people attend our creative workshop and 15 volunteers worked on the campaign.
We organised the first Celebration of Creativity day which showcase the work of dyslexic and neuro diverse artists from across the world. As well as provide entertainment form dyslexic performers. Including Dyslexic poet Anita Govan
