Refugee is Not My Name at the State Capitol
Donation protected

They all share a label, but they each have a name.
"Refugee is Not My Name " is a traveling art exhibition that introduces Austin residents to some of the city's refugees. This is a project about community and neighbors. The people you will meet are unique; they ask to be seen as individuals, not as a collective, global crisis.
Through portraits and storytelling, we have been meeting Austin residents where they are over the last year - in public spaces throughout the city - and inviting them to come and learn the names, see the faces, and get to know some of these refugee neighbors through the exhibition. In one last push, we need your help to get our show in front of our lawmakers at the Texas State Capitol. With support from New American Economy, Refugee Council USA, and Rep. Donna Howard's office, we are on the Capitol schedule for March 25- March 29, 2019...so we have just a few more weeks to raise the funds we need to make it happen.
If you want to help us get this project to the Capitol and in front of our state's lawmakers, we are raising money to:
1. fund the cost of materials to print the remaining photographs + stories (there are 3 new ones!)
2. help us cover installation costs for our final show at the Texas State Capitol
Our hope is that as people experience this exhibition, they recognize that everyone needs friends to feel at home in a place; and ultimately, we hope they will be inspired to broaden their circle of friends to include those who are learning to make a new life in Austin.
If you have supported this project in any way, we thank you. This is one more opportunity to further strengthen the inclusive and supportive nature of our city.
On behalf of the men, women and children featured in "Refugee is Not My Name," thank you for helping them introduce themselves to the community we all call home.
With gratitude,
Ashley, Jess, Aaron, + Kat
* All donations will go toward the exhibition
