Reesey the Kitten's Vet Bills

Donation protected

I'm Scott, Reesey's owner. I found Reesey a few blocks from my apartment when she was 4 weeks old. I was just walking by and heard a little squeak and found a tiny ball of fur sticking out of a hubcab (she was stuck). Couldn't say no to a kitten in need, so I took her in. Reesey is now 12 weeks old, and while growing and doing fairly well, she has had some medical issues.

First are her ears. When I found her, she did have ear mites which we were able to successfully get rid of, but she's now developed (or continued, vet's not quite sure) a bacterial infection which hasn't responded to medication and the lab couldn't identify after an expensive culture. For that, I've now been advised to consult with a dermatologist.

Second, despite being dewormed three times, she pooped out an adult worm last week. The vet was understanding enough to get that tested for free (over $100 normally), but it will likely result in having to use a more aggressive deworming medicine and follow up tests to confirm they are gone.

Finally, she hurt her leg a couple weeks ago which I had to put all $800 on my credit card in order to afford the vet emergency room. She's still tender when the vet examined her last week, so they want me to consult with a surgeon, as she might have a salter-harris fracture which could inhibit the growth of her leg. The cost for another examination and tests will be $800-$1000, let alone the cost of surgery should she need it.

I was going to get pet insurance for these exact reasons, but she turned 8 weeks old when she hurt her leg (minimum age for insurance) and now everything is a preexisting condition and would not be covered.

In the two months I've had Reesey, I've fallen in love with my little furball, but I've also gone through all my savings in about ~$1500 worth of vet bills and then been burning through my credit card to cover the rest. She will at minimum need 4 more vet visits to clear up all her issues since two are specialists and then a follow up, which could be anywhere from ~$1200-$1800+, depending on medications, tests, and procedures. Any money raised would go toward those future expenses for her care, or to pay off her emergency visit on my credit card.

I want her to be better, but now that I'm through my savings I don't know what else to do when having to choose between rent, student loan payments, and her vet bills. When I took her in, I knew it was around $600 to get a new cat settled and up to date medically, and figuring she was a street kitten, I was prepared for double that. But now that I've reached nearly four times that cost (and projected to possibly even double what I've already spent), I'm out of options and reaching out for her sake. Any help at all is greatly appreciated!
