Redeemer Nature Play Habitat

$2,860 of $6,500 goal

Raised by 36 people in 12 months
You can help expand and improve our brand-new natural playground that nearly 50 volunteers, supported by more than 100 donors, made from scratch for the children of Redeemer Classical School, Redeemer Lutheran Church, and our neighborhood.

Your donation will pay for materials we'll use to enhance the playground we started last summer, including a roof on our outdoor classroom, a huge water and rocks play table, and outdoor easels.

For our second phase in summer 2020, we need $5,000. Every dollar counts! $8 can buy a weatherproofed 2X4 to build the water table. $20 can buy new walls for the play house. $100 can buy two concrete anchors for the outdoor classroom roof.

Click here to volunteer for our 2019 build day, June 29. See a pack of hooligans enjoying the playground below, and imagine them learning outside on our many rainy Fort Wayne days inside a roofed outdoor classroom!

This poem was crafted by playground supporter Paul Binotto, a Federalist friend. Added here are some pics Joy took yesterday of kids on the playground. Poems and limericks are definitely in keeping with our style at Redeemer!

If you find plastic
less than fantastic.
And, stone and wood,
good, but misunderstood.

Why not go out on a limb
with your nickel or dime
So lil’ kiddies can climb
On a natural jungle-gym?

I hope this has you wearin’ a big grin,
And, the play of my words, the sound of my rhymes.
Made you happy to give your nickels and dimes,
If you wanna grin bigger, try pitchin’ more in.

Playground giver Paul Binotto shares this, posted here with his permission and hope that it "makes people laugh a little, think a little, and give a lot!"

Today's playgrounds remind me of that old Jodi Mitchel lyric, "The paved paradise and put up a parking lot" - But, instead:

They tore down a forest and put up a plastic jungle gym.
They pulled out all the grass, and put some astro-turf in.
And, so little Billy and Sally won't dare get a scratch,
They'll dress 'em up in some blue and pink bubble wrap.
