Keanu's journey - from red dust to Paralympics!

Donation protected
Outback Academy Australia’s Red Dust Heelers athlete, Keanu Calyon, from Mulan Community in the Kimberley has a dream to represent his community and his country at a Paralympic Games in the 100m Sprint.

Keanu lost parts of all 4 of his limbs due to complications from chicken pox as an infant, but he has not let that stop him from doing everything he has set his mind to.

Keanu hopes to be a leader, and hopes that his story and journey will inspire and open up doors for many other young people with disabilities from the Kimberley and other remote regions of Australia - so they can also try Paralympic Sport and live their lives to the fullest.

To achieve Keanu’s Paralympic Dream, he will need to relocate to Perth, Western Australia, to receive top level coaching and train 6-7 times a week. Outback Academy Australia is currently looking for support to cover the costs of Keanu’s relocation, coaching and travel for competitions.

So many people from Keanu’s family, community and new friends from across the country have supported Keanu to this point - Keanu is very thankful for this.

We believe that it takes a village to support and empower young people to achieve their dreams. In Keanu’s case, we would love for you to join the growing community wrapped around him that is supporting and encouraging him on his Paralympic Journey.

I am one of Keanu's mentors and advocates, and co-founder of the Red Dust Heelers. Along with Tika Makasi Keanu's carer and mentor from Mulan, we have costed what it would take for Keanu to relocate and live in Perth and receive the support he needs in Athletics and getting to competition events around the country in order to qualify for International competition.

Here is our estimate of costs -
$10,000 coaching
$4,000 relocation (travel expenses for Keanu and carer)
$20,000 accommodation in perth
$26,000 (airfares, accommodation to competitions throughout the year)
$5,000 (training equipment and clothing (including specially made runners)
$15,000 (to help cover travel to International competition with his carer)

100% of your donation will go towards these expenses listed above through an account set up for Keanu's Paralympic Goal - I'll be personally withdrawing funds to my bank account, and then paying for all expenses directly, and updating donors each time I do.

Thank you in advance for your support, and we look forward to updating you on his progress.
