"Red" Winzer Music Scholarship
Donation protected
The Big Red Band. For many of us, those words evoke fond memories and musical legacies that last a lifetime. So powerful are such memories and legacies that we are called to recognize our experiences...and support those who are currently forming their own lasting memories and legacies as members of the Souderton Area High School Big Red Band. In response to this calling, the "Red" Winzer Instrumental Music Scholarship was created.
What is the "Red" Winzer Instrumental Music Scholarship? As stated in the award information form that was submitted to Souderton Area High School..."The 'Red' Winzer Instrumental Music Scholarship was created and developed by a committee of Big Red Band members/alumni from the Souderton Area High School Classes of 1981 and 1982 to acknowledge and celebrate the positive experiences and lifelong friendships developed during their time in the SAHS instrumental music program. Named in honor of the talented and influential former director of the SAHS marching, concert and jazz bands, Mr. Elmer 'Red' Winzer, the award seeks to recognize a graduating SAHS band member who best exemplifies the affirming qualities and beneficial effects to which the SAHS instrumental music program and its alumni have continually aspired."
Who would be eligible to receive this award? The recipient of this award will be a college-bound senior who: 1) has been a member in good standing of the SAHS band for their senior year and at least one other school year, 2) has exhibited earnest dedication/commitment to the SAHS instrumental music program, 3) has exhibited leadership qualities as exemplified by her/his persistent development of her/his musical skills and the continual support of her/his peers as they develop their musical skills, 4) has consistently displayed a positive attitude and good character in interactions with both her/his peers and the SAHS instrumental music program staff, and 5) has developed and shared with her/his peers an active appreciation for a broad range of musical forms and genres.
Your donation to the "Red" Winzer Music Scholarship fund will help make this empowering scholarship a reality...for a deserving band member from the SAHS Class of 2017...and other such deserving band members for many years to come. Your donation will also help the music scholarship to evolve into a certified non-profit/charity...allowing an even broader range of support and assistance.
Giving back to our musical community...Honoring "Red" Winzer and all the band directors, before and since, who have graced the halls of Souderton Area High School...Recognizing the experiences and friendships that participation in the Big Red Band has brought to us all...Supporting the performing arts and music appreciation in our schools. These are the noble goals...and your donation will help to achieve them. Your generosity and continued support will be much appreciated.
