Keep Music Programs In School

My name is Andrew McAuley and I'm a drummer, percussionist, and educator who is determined to not only help keep music programs alive in our schools, but to do so by using the power of music.  Unfortunately, I can't pull this off by myself, so I need all of your help.

Public schools all over the country are losing their music programs due to budget cuts and I refuse to sit by idly while it continues.  Besides being an important creative outlet, music often helps students to better understand subjects such as math and science, engages their desire to learn, and can even offer a career path (as in my case). To try and do my part, I have decided to try and record a Christmas record, with 100% of its sales going towards the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which sponsors schools that can no longer afford music education programs.  The music that I will be recording?  I have interpreted and rearranged the music from Vince Guaraldi's classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas" album (a record that has always been very special to me), and have been putting together a group of musicians to record the material.  The music is very challenging but not as challenging as raising the funds to make this dream come true.  Between paying each musician, rehearsal session, and several days of studio time, the project cost is going to be more than I can afford by myself.  That's where you come in.

By donating to this campaign, you can help make this dream become a reality and be a part of something truly special.  This record is a true passion project for me and even though it's a lot to take on in less than three weeks, I'm determined to succeed and have the record out for Christmas morning the very latest.  One thing for sure is that this album isn't going to be your typical Christmas album.  Expect everything from afro-cuban and New Orleans second line to some funk, drum 'n bass, and even a dose of experimental fun thrown in for good measure.  So, what are you waiting for?  Help kids get a musical education and get yourself some new tunes to celebrate the holidays with at the same time!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I'm proud to announce that the album was indeed finished in time and streamed live online, Christmas morning. Although the recording is in the books, I still need to raise enough funds to have physical copies printed as well as register the record with itunes, cdbaby, etc, so please keep spreading the word.

I want to thank each and everyone of you who contributed to making this special record become a reality, and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Enjoy the album here! :)

Tonight marked the second of three recording sessions for the album. Tomorrow is the final tracking session and I have to say "thank you" to Dylan DeFeo and Jared Miller for taking on so much challenging material over the course of a mere two rehearsals. Also, a special "thank you" to Wayne Silver of The Ice Plant recording studios in Queens for taking on the equally daunting task of tracking ten ten songs and mixing them down in time for the album to release on Christmas Day. My back is against the wall tomorrow night, so it's do or die time. Who's got my back?

After an awesome rehearsal tonight, I couldn't be happier with how the music is turning out. The studio dates are coming up in a few days though, and that's where I need everyone's help! Thank you to those who have donated so far and thank you to those who have shared the fundraiser with others. Please keep it up as we have less than two weeks to reach as close to the goal as possible!

Much love,
Andrew McAuley
