Recently Adopted Dog Hospitalized

Donation protected

I started a dog rescue organization, Chewbacca Dog Rescue, after visiting my daughter in Mexico City.  I was here for over a month to heal and rediscover my life purpose.

While visiting, I discovered a park where all of the shelters gather to try and adopt or receive donations for abused, homeless and hungry dogs. I soon realized that this was what I wanted to dedicate my life to.

After a month worth of weekend visits to the park, and a day of giving out food to all of the shelters there, I connected with one special dog. He was a large dog and was there every weekend I went. I knew in my heart that he would not get adopted. I fell in love with him and our bond led me to rescue him. His name is Drago.  He is a lab mix and currently weighs 59 lbs.

Just today, I was getting everything ready to take him home with me to New York but he started to not look so good. To begin with, I adopted him as a really skinny, malnourished dog. He was gagging, not eating, had a super high fever, and diarrhea.

I rushed him to the vet and after evaluating him they sent for immediate admission to the nearest hospital.  He was so bad, we had to call for an Uber to transport him because he was too weak to walk 5 blocks.

They hooked him up to an IV and a catheter. He is in the hospital now and we are waiting for his blood results.  He is very sick. I'm worried and trying to figure out what to do.

Now I have to stay longer, cancel my flight, find a new place to stay until he's better and have to pay for his hospitalization. I refuse to leave him behind and I refuse to give up. I know there are other people out there who are willing to give a little of their time and resources to help those in need.

As I said before, I will NOT leave him behind but I have been visiting in Mexico City for so long that I just can't afford to stay here any longer and pay for his hospitalization. I'm open to all avenues of how to make this happen. He's such a sweet, gentle and playful dog who deserves the kind of life I was looking to give him.

I need your help, please! If this message speaks to you or if you know someone who it would speak to please donate, share, offer suggestions, or offer connections that can help me bring Drago home healthy and happy.
