€7,222 of €100,000 goal

Raised by 78 people in 15 months
Created September 12, 2017
#Rebuildsxm was founded due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma to our beloved islands St.Maarten, Saba & St. Eustatius. We came together to #rebuildsxm and provide our people with the support they need to get back to a relatively “normal ” day to day life.

After the emergency services (Red Cross & Dutch Army) have left our islands, it is time to start rebuilding. In order to do so we have setup this GoFundMe page to collect donations to #rebuildsxm and our neighbouring islands Saba & St. Eustatius.

Your donations will be used for:

- providing kids with schoolsupplies, uniforms and learning materials needed to go back to school (Milestone #1 €50,000)

- funding sporting initiatives on the island, which help to keep our youths' minds off of the disaster which struck their world (Milestone # 2 € 35,000)

- helping our elderly, to take a step outdoors again and remind them of the beauty of our island and its people (Milestone #3 € 15,000)

About #rebuildsxm
While Hurricane Irma struck the islands of St. Maarten, Saba & St. Eustatius, Cyriel and John decided they needed to take action. They got together with friends who’s loved ones were also struck by Hurricane Irma and decided to centralise the efforts to #rebuildsxm. Via social media and many news outlets, the #rebuildsxm team managed to create an enormous awareness for what happened to the island after hurricane Irma struck. This initiative to create awareness drove them to even greater lengths and they decided to setup a non-profit organization #rebuildsxm ( www.rebuildsxm.com) where all efforts for the islands could be united. #rebuildsxm was born! With the attention our #rebuildsxm team received from the many news outlets and social media, we decided to setup a GoFundMe page to raise donations for projects aimed at helping our people once the emergency services have left. 100% of the donations will go to these projects in support of restoring the daily life of our people.

From the #rebuildsxm team “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts”

Dear Donors,

It has been quite some time since we last provided an update. This is because we have been extremely busy helping those that we set out to help post hurricane Irma. Thus far we have successfully completed two projects, made countless connections with others that have helped towards rebuilding Sint Maarten and we are excited to share this news with you!

Project 1, which took place in March 2018, focussed on providing play schools with school materials, schools with sporting equipment for their gym classes and the National Institute of Arts with gymnastic equipment. More information can be found in the press release made by the Daily Herald. Would you like to read more about it? Click here: https://www.thedailyherald.sx/islands/75260-rebuildsxm-makes-large-donation-to-schools-sports-organisations

Project 2, which was just recently finalised, consisted of amazing partnerships and happy children starting off the school year with confidence. Partnerships were made with the Sint Maarten Development Fund and a local bank. Over 400 at-risk-children, in 17 different schools, were given new school uniforms. Information received was collected by the principals and teachers of each school. A press release was written and it can be viewed here: https://www.thedailyherald.sx/islands/79313-rebuildsxm-and-smdf-to-give-uniforms-to-400-pupils

In between these projects the team at Rebuildsxm solidified more funding that would go directly to a local school: https://www.thedailyherald.sx/islands/75332-den-bosch-gives-to-mac-schools

Published the full year financial figures of 2017 (Only in Dutch). These can be viewed here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1acmoEMzWcjk3oqKPr017CacvLvnhjcCN/view

At the moment a team member of Rebuildsxm is on Sint Maarten to distribute the remaining sports equipment and school materials to those that can use it best.

At this point we still have sufficient funding to execute more projects. We will keep working hard to help those that need it the most, while focussing on the actual need almost a year after hurricane Irma. Thank you for your continued support!

We are excited to bring you up to speed with efforts the team at Rebuildsxm has been undertaking. It's almost seven months since the passing of hurricane Irma. In the meantime we have raised over €65,000 through efforts taken by people all over the world to help the hurricane affected islands Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius.
All the money raised will be focussed on those groups that we outlined in our milestones at inception of the foundation. (for more information you can visit www.rebuildsxm.com)
The team has conducted assessments at various schools and sport organisations on Sint Maarten. Based on these assessments a forty foot container has been filled with school materials for (play) schools and sports equipment. In a little over a week John Sandiford, Jisk Goslinga and Cyriel Pfennings will travel to Sint Maarten to personally distribute all material. This is project #1 and we look forward to conducting more assessments and help over the coming months. We'd love to give you insight into the efforts done to fill this container by showing you the video attached to this message.
