Rebuilding Homes In Syangma
Donation protected
My name is Ang Choti Sherpa. I am originally from Nepal and moved to the States about a year and half ago. I was raised in this village called Syangma, under the shadow of the mountains in the Everest region. But just about a week ago on April 25, an earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck my country. At this moment, the people of my country are going through a lot of difficulties. My village was not hit very badly, considering the damage in other places, but almost every house in my village is half-destroyed because of shaking from the earthquake.
When I first saw the news I couldn’t believe my eyes. My eyes were filled with tears every time I saw the news about my country and the people going through all those difficulties. I couldn’t get ahold of myself for the first few days, but I had to remind myself that I should stay strong so I could help my people even if my country was weak. The people of my village have been staying in tents since the earthquake and it’s even getting more difficult for them because of the weather. It’s rainy season in Nepal, so the rain and damp is making their living situation difficult. I want to help them before winter starts because during winter the weather gets really harsh. The winters are as harsh and cold as the Gunnison Valley, with lots of wind. But, in Syangma, people only heat their homes with wood fires, so it is essential to have a solid home to survive. As I think about my family and friends living in tents next to their destroyed homes, I want to help them by any means possible.
I want to help the people of my village by fundraising to help them rebuild their homes. I cannot do it alone; I need your help in the form of donations. Every dollar that you donate will be used wisely and it can help my people during their difficult times. The money that you’ll donate will be used to help the ones in need in Syangma by helping them build houses for shelter. There are many countries and people helping my country but they don’t know that half of the goods and money that have been donated are being taken away by the government before they are given to the poor ones. Also, a lot of the donations are being directed to Kathmandu and bigger areas, but even though my village has only 15 homes, that is 16 families that are now homeless. There is no aid organization focused on them. There is no one to help them, except those of us that know them and love them.
In order to help these families rebuild their homes, they need to purchase new stones. It will cost about $5000 per home to rebuild. The money I will raise will arrive in Syangma via my mother, who still lives there. She will ensure that the money will be given to the families according to how damaged their homes are.
Please help me rebuild my village by considering a donation of any size.
