What is happening?
Peru is experiencing intense flooding and mudslides and experts are saying this is the worst natural disaster to hit peru in decades. About 24 regions have been declared in state of emergency. Roads and and highways are completely blocked and/or destroyed, literally crumbling and bridges collapsing. At least 70 people have died and more than 70,000 have become homeless.
What's this campaign for?
Flor and Daniel along with their 3 children are part of the 70,000. Their roof collapsed a couple days ago destroying everything they owned, including their artisan workshop - their business and sole source of income. They are in dire need of support to get back on their feet.
Who is this family to me?
They were my first host family in Moche, Peru where I served as a Peace Corps volunteer and now people I consider my own family. They were always checking on me and offering me food every time I visited their home, although I knew they had very little themselves. I never felt a shortage of love in Daniel and Flor's house albeit humble. They are compassionate and generous with what little they have. They strive every day to become better followers of Chirst, community members, and business owners. They take a lot of pride in their work, making all their products by hand.
But now my Peruvian family are the ones who have nothing to give and need all the help they can get.
How can you help?
They need to repair their roof to have a dry space to rebuild in. Also in the disaster, all their artisan tools were destroyed leaving them without a way to ever earn an income let alone put food on the table for their children.
All donations will be used to begin replacing their workshop tools and to literally put a roof over their heads. Peru's current exchange rate is $1=S/.3.25 so whatever you are able to contribute will go a long way. Please consider helping them rebuild their home, their workshop and their lives. I will be able to send the funds through Western Union directly to the family who will then provide us updates with photos to show us how we've been able to positively impact them.
