The Wesley College Volleyball Team was fortunate enough to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico over Labor Day to compete in the Puerto Rico College Sports Tours Classico tournament. This was an amazing experience for the team, as they were able to play the sport they love and explore new places on a beautiful island and make memories that they will have for a lifetime. We are very thankful to have gotten out of there when we did, and our hearts have broken watching and hearing about the devastation that both Irma and Maria have done to the island. They are constantly in our prayers.
Puerto Rico College Sports Tours has chosen to partner with the Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico for the rebuilding efforts of the island. We have explored a few options and have found that monetary funding is the most flexible way to reach the needs of the communities. Once infrastructure improves, PRCST will reach out with an address and list of needs for other contributions such as clothing and food items.
It is my understanding that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico are uniquely positioned to provide immediate relief to the communities that may need it most. Right now, with power out across the island and fuel distribution almost at a standstill the most practical means of support is to donate money. Sending food and clothing shipments at this time is unreliable because shipping and delivery simply cannot be gauranteed.
The situation is, quite frankly, catastrophic and powerfully overwhelming. They've had extreme problems with keeping hospitals up and running, and medical supplies are scarce. Ambulances are sitting idle with no fuel to respond to emergencies. No power means no air condition for the sick or elderly. Food and water supplies are slow to arrive to the large population who all need it. This type of natural disaster could happen to anyone, and we are just asking that if you feel it in your heart to give, any amount at all will help aid and rebuild the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and help those who welcomed us and helped us have an amzing experience over there.
