Jaymie's Medical Fund

Hi my name is Jaymie Ortiz. I am turning three next month. Last year, My life was turned upside down when, while under the supervison of my babysitter. My hands were submerged in a pot of boiling water which caused third degree burns to both of my hands. I was treated at the University of Chapel Hill Jaycee Burn Center and a formal police investigation began. During the investigation, it was determined by Nurses, Doctors, Officers and Investigators that my injuries were not accidental but instead were intentional.

During my treatment process, the Doctors and Nurses were all so kind to me. Police Officers showed their support by visiting me and my family at the Hospital. Some of them went the extra mile by bringing toys for me to play with and flowers for my family. The treatment process has been a long and grueling ordeal. So far, I went through two skin graphing surgeries. I still have two more sessions of laser surgery left and in the future, I may have additional skin graphing surgeries for skin flexibility purposes. Currently, with the exception of my thumbs, I can move my hands with ease. I am blessed to have two wonderful Parents, who are working extremley hard to pay for the medical bills, but they need a little help. Thus far, I accrued approximately $140,000 in medical bills. Thankfully, my Dad has good Health Insurance that has supplemented the majority of the cost. Sadly, he still owes $20,000 from the last two skin graphing surgeries.
