Razz's Bucket List
Donation protected
Big adventures for this little dog this year. And we need your help.
“Your bucket has one purpose only. It’s purpose is to hold your good thoughts and feelings about yourself. You feel very happy and good when your bucket is full, and you feel sad when your bucket is empty... So, how how do you fill a bucket? You fill a bucket when you show love to someone, when you say or do something kind, or even when you give someone a smile. That’s being a bucket filler.” (Excerpt from “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud)
Once upon a time, an animal shelter took in a tiny 11 year old stray dog who had been living on the streets. He was malnourished, lethargic, severely underweight (3.9 pounds), arthritic with a fractured hip, a heart murmur, poor eyesight, matted, dirty, flea infested fur and infected skin, and an unknown life history. They named him Razz.
Razz’s bucket was empty.
When Razz got adopted, his human took him home so he could die in comfort and peace. But instead of dying, Razz taught his humans how to live.
Today, Razz is a happy, five pound, 12 year old senior, who became a registered therapy animal (who visits school children and seniors), and is beloved by hundreds of people around the globe.
Why a Bucket List now?
Life is short. We are grateful for every day that he is alive AND well. We’re realistic. We know his time with us is limited. It’s only a matter of time before Razz’s eyesight worsens or his arthritis stops him from doing many of the things he loves.
Why wait until it’s almost too late to give him the adventures of a lifetime? Razz has a whole lot of living to do, which is why: we’re not focusing on kicking the bucket; our focus is to fill Razz’s bucket, and yours, too.
Help us fulfill Razz’s Bucket List
His list will be filled with adventure, kindness, love, and empathy. And chicken and cheese. Definitely lots of chicken and cheese.
Your Contributions
Funds help offset Razz’s medical, health and wellness care, and pet projects and activities on his Bucket List. (Get it? Pet projects. <smile>)
Phase 1
THE PREPARATION.
Donations during phase one help us to:
Design and print Read to Razz educator packets filled with items like items like Razz themed paper book covers, bookmarks, stickers, certificates of achievement, and "caught being good" cards to reward postive behavior in conjunction with Razz's therapy animal visits to schools and libraries (where elementary school age students read books out loud to Razz).
Treat a few educators to chips and queso (one of Razz's favorite restaurant snacks) as they review our program to ensure our reading incentives meet elementary school children's needs.
Create a Razz logo (for lots of fun items)
Develop a protype sample of a custom made Little Razz plush toy in the micropup's likeness. (Our goal for the very near future is to donate Little Razz toys to many libraries and elementary schools for their reading areas and classroom cool out zones, and to donate toys to nursing homes/rehab centers for seniors with cognitive disabilities (who often respond well to dolls and plush toys. We'll also make some available to the general public.)
Phase 2
THE TOUR, THE TALE, AND THE TOY ORDERS
During this phase, we'll:
Schedule Razz visits to schools, libraries and senior facilities.
Plan fun public and special events featuring Razz and friends.
Start collecting books and toys, toys and books, and more books and toys (to giveaway through the Read to Razz program or to non-profit/community organizations), and taking orders from the public for Razz toys of their very own.
Start working with editors, photographers and illustrators to develop Razz inspired books that tell his story.
Phase 3
THE BUCKET LIST
Phase three we'll fully manifest his list! Funds raised will offset expenses and associated travel costs, and of course, continue to keep Razz healthy (like his monthly vet visits), wealthy (rich in friendship, we mean), and wise.
We’ve started this list inspired by some of Razz’s likes and favorite hobbies, but what else should we add to it? What ways can others’ buckets be filled by Razz?
Here’s his starter list (in no particular order):
Get loved on by a child living with juvenile arthritis
Hike somewhere amazing
Visit at least 5 wineries with friends
Visit at least 5 Razzles in person (his fans)
Complete 25 therapy animal visitations
Inspire 500 children to read
Meet Santa AND his elves (Razz’s kid friends feel it’s important that he visit elves)
Take long walks on the beach
Sample several varieties of chips and queso
Be featured in a book or magazine
Be on TV
Take some awesome pictures
Host at least 1 public Razz event
To be continued...
