Dane was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on December 14, 2012 and reached Remission in April, 2013. He’s gone through countless blood transfusions, clinic visits, needle pokes, spinal taps, hospital stays, etc. Dane has always remained positive and looked forward to his end of treatment; which finally happened 1 year and 8 months ago. Since then, he’s enjoyed living a “normal” life, off of medications, with clinic visits happening less and less; regaining his good heath, getting stronger, and enjoying his Senior Year at RAHS. During his regular check up on November 27, the world stopped again. His Leukemia was back. The doctors explained that this happens 15-20% of the time and we had hoped to be in that 80-85% group, where it does not. It’s as if there was a lone leukemia cell, in hiding since April, 2013, that decided to make an appearance, have a party, and invite all its friends.

Dane was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis on November 30 and will undergo a month, in-hospital, of intense, ugly, chemo therapy; followed by another 2 years of maintenance – oral chemo and various other medications to keep him cancer free. We are certain that we will beat this again, and for good this time.

This is a GoFund Me Account for Dane, because no one should have to go through this once and certainly, not twice. These funds will be used to accommodate his distaste of hospital foods by purchasing gift cards towards Wendy’s, Dominos, Subway, Burger King, etc. He wants to hold off on Chipotle, since it’s his favorite and having cancer associated with Chipotle, in any way, will make it inedible after he’s done with treatment, and that would be a shame. He will also be using funds to purchase parking passes for his friends who visit, so they won’t need to pay ramp parking fees on the way out. We will also be working with RAYHA teams to purchase Christmas gifts for the children occupying a room on the 7th Floor (Hematology/Oncology) at Children’s, on Christmas. There are 33 rooms with children and families who, together with us, will not be enjoying the holidays away from the hospital. Any remaining funds will be used for fun stuff for Dane. His parent’s decided to max out this account at a reasonable amount. Our family does not want to profit, but he’s been dealt a crappy card and deserves some fun to take his mind off the bad; and in my own experience, giving and receiving is part of the healing process.

We appreciate all prayers, good wishes and support given. God Bless-
Tom, Jill, Dane and Ivy Ray
