RATTLESNAKE RIDGE Monthly SatSAR

The USA - Washington - Rattlesnake Ridge - In January this year (2018), citizens in Union Gap, Yakima, central Washington, and the northwest of the USA became aware of an ominous landslide right in their corner of the world. Rattlesnake Ridge became national news for several weeks as the land from the top of the ridge began slumping and cleaving across the hillside.  A quarry on the site was affected, it's owners pressing into action to hire regional consultants to support safety and inform the state and federal agencies of what was happening.  What was happening?

·       If you have driven I-82 through Washington state, you have seen Rattlesnake Ridge. Currently seismic and prism monitoring is ongoing, itinerant LiDAR scans are made, but the DNR, WASHDOT, and State have not called for regular 24/7 monitoring, saying it is not necessary.

·       SatSAR Interferometric Radar monitoring is AVAILABLE but has not been engaged.  A  set of historical scans back to 2015 is available from satellite provider Datel, who through their website (https://www.sille.space/?lang=en ) is offering monthly or twice-monthly data updates.



·       Please join in this citizen-based opportunity to bring the historical data into view and see updated differential interferograms. Results may promote safety, operational awareness, and be made available for the greater good of the area travelers and residents.
