Last year, our dear friend, John Ridings, survived his first bout with stage 4 cancer of the mouth, but it has now returned as bone and lung cancer.
During the first round, along with chemo and radiation, he had a third of his tongue removed, neck/jaw surgery, forearm skin removal to replace lost tongue tissue, and a stomach feeding tube.
The first fight with cancer forced him to stop eating many types of food, but other than that he was basically back to his normal, goofy, witty, fun-loving self.
This time around, after simply going to the doctor for knee pain, John discovered he has stage 3 cancer of the knee/femur and also that cancerous tumors are spread throughout his body; including, his spine, temple, lung, groin, and neck. John will undergo chemo and radiation soon.
This second round of cancer has already started affecting his mobility, eyesight, and daily activities; he is currently using crutches but is likely to become wheelchair dependent.
John is a Master Gardener/Horticulturist and works for the UNT grounds crew and for his own start-up landscaping business, but he often can't work due to the pain, lack of mobility, and frequent doctors' appointments.
Furthermore, his partner, Janet, is currently battling her second round of ovarian cancer; they discovered the unfortunate news just weeks apart from one another.
Other than our love and support, John needs financial help to cover the costs of these treatments, potential future surgeries, and daily life expenses.
John's situation is urgent seeing as he cannot continue work as usual. If you would like to help our John Boy kick cancer's ass AGAIN, please contribute! Whatever you can give, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
