Rally for Dallys - Bringing Beca Back

If you know Beca Dally, then you know she’s an exceptional human being. If you don’t know Beca, then you should make sure to meet her, to enjoy her wry smile and sense of humor. It’ll do you good.

Just before Christmas 2018, Beca was riding with her youngest daughter, Lynsey, when they collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. While Lynsey received cuts and bruises, she limped away with 11 stiches. Beca was not so lucky. She sustained massive internal injuries, the extent of which shocked the trauma surgeons. After four surgeries, 19 days in the hospital–including 13 in ICU–Beca was able to go home. Her ordeal, and that of her family, is far from over. She is facing a lengthy rehabilitation.

Beca and the Dally family are not the ones who set up this page. This is our doing and our responsibility, yours and ours, all the people who Beca and Steve have touched and shaped over the years, and we are many. We’re here to spread the word that some of our favorite folks are in trouble and marshal our powers to help them out.

Steve has a habit of bringing home wandering travelers. He’s built a huge community of friends from all over the world, and spreads invitations to visit everywhere he goes. Most of us careen into the Dally household after a long day on the river, and we’re not always in a state of social acceptability. No matter what state we’re in, Beca unfailingly welcomes us into her home, feeds us and even offers us a bed.

That’s how I (Miles Nolte) first met her. I showed up on her doorstep late at night with a bag of questionable clothing and a case full of fishing gear, a stranger from the other side of the country. She enveloped me in a huge hug, sat me down at her kitchen table and set a plate of much needed comfort food in front of me. Not only that, but the following day, she drove me four hours out of her way and dropped me off at the airport.

My story is not unique. That’s how Beca approaches life. She has spent her career caring for the young children of her small Arkansas community, and for the grown up children that Steve chooses to befriend. Warmth and selfless generosity pour from her, and she always assumes the best of people, even when they sometimes disappoint her.

Now, she and Steve need our help. The size of their hospital bill is daunting, but we are a community that thrives on challenges. The Dallys have given us their blessing to set up this account so that we can all help. They’re not the type to ask for help, and they didn’t. We are rallying, because they would do the same for us if we needed it the way they do.

So please, make a donation. Every cent (after GoFundMe takes its small payment processing fee of 2.9% plus 30 cents per donation) will go directly to Steve and Beca to help offset their huge medical expenses. And make a trip down to Mountain Home, Arkansas. The Dallys will be happy to see you.
