The Childrens Ward of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Stadium Way in Woolwich, was ransacked and had items stolen that would have benefited the patients in the Safari Ward, all of which were children.

The Safari Ward treats hundreds of children every year, of which there are 20 beds and are in constant demand. Their conditions can vary from epilepsy and diabetes to Orthopaedic surgery.

However, the playroom is much appreciated by the children who find themselves in that ward, especially when they are poorly.

This crowdfunding page is designed to replace items that will help assist their recovery and allow them to take their mind off their medical condition.

I would be grateful if you could donate what you can and thank you in advance for your assistance.

All the best.

Just to let all know that GoFundMe have remitted me the bulk of the money (£1,184 to date). Therefore, I have remitted this morning, the full total of what I was expecting after the fees were deducted (£1,203.89) and rounded it up to the nearest fiver.

I hope to visit the ward during the course of next week or the following week and I will post a couple of pictures of my visit in due course.

I cannot say this enough, but thank you all again for your support during this campaign. I am sure it will make the world of difference to the children on the ward.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend !

All the best.

Firstly, thanks again for your generous donations, the response has been wonderful, as well as the kind comments.

I have been going backwards and forwards to GoFundMe to understand their procedures concerning remitting the funds for me to forward on, as well as being in touch with Deborah Yearsley of the Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust (Acorn Fund) to obtain the relevant bank details. The site is no longer taking any further donations, but I have kept it live for updates only.

Secondly, I was not aware that, although GoFundMe do not charge for hosting the crowdfunder page, they do take a 2.9% transaction fee + 25p per donation. This means that out of the £1,255.00 raised, this leaves £1,203.29 to be donated to the ward. I am disappointed by that - worth bearing in mind in future for anyone else who creates such sites - but nonetheless, it is still a very handsome sum for the ward.

Thirdly, I have initiated the withdrawal of funds process and they conduct it in tranches; the GoFundMe payment partners, remit them as they are processed which takes a few business days and this varies depending on the card used. The first tranche of cleared donations (£991.42) is due to be received by 26 May, which I will immediately forward onto the Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust (Acorn Fund); at least they can then start purchasing items for the Safari Ward.

Therefore, I appreciate your patience - this is very frustrating all round and I have learnt something conducting this crowdfunder - and I will continue to update you all, especially concerning when the funds are forwarded onto the hospital.

All the best and thank you all again.

Just to let you all know, I spoke to Carol, who is in charge of the play co-ordination of the ward and she is very pleased to hear of what this crowdraiser has achieved.

In order to get he funds as quickly as possible to what ward, I have said I would allow this to run until the end of tomorrow (Thursday). I will then get in touch with GoFundMe to arrange for the funds raised to be withdrawn.

As I understand from GoFundMe and because I am not associated with the hospital/charity, the funds will be remitted directly to me first. Once I have received them from GoFundMe, I will arrange for the funds to be immediately transferred to the hospital via a Faster Payments transfer (which means a maximum 2 hours between myself receiving the funds and myself initiating the transfer across to the hospital).

I will be wholly transparent throughout this process and let you know once the funds have been received and when I have forwarded these onto the hospital for them to use for the ward.

In the meantime, I am overwhelmed by the response to this and thank you all for your very generous donations to date; it is very much appreciated.

All the best.

The response to this has been absolutely amazing and the target has been reached after just four days. Thanks to all who donated, the people of the borough of Greenwich - and wider area - for their support. I set this up with the aspiration of reaching the £1,000 target, but to exceed that in such a short space of time is astonishing.

I plan to contact the play co-ordinator of the ward during the course of today to see whether they would like this to be kept open for a couple of days or if they would like this closed now the target has been reached.

The main priority is to get replacement items for the ward as quickly as possible. I will then speak to GoFundMe to facilitate getting the funds to them asap. I will keep you all updated with the progress of this and I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations to date.

All the best.
