Raising money for Makokezi Primary School
After our trip to Malawi, as a group, we have decided to continue to raise money for Makokezi Primary School, situated in the city of Blantyre within Malawi. On the 20th of August, will walk from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, to the David Livingstone Centre, Blantyre.
Makokezi is now a registered school, therefore, Grade 8 are able to sit exams with the hope of pupils progressing onto further education. Two students this year were extremely grateful to have the opportunity to attend secondary school. But, the exam board now expect primary schools to bring single desks to the exam centre in order for students within the school to sit exams. Unfortunately, Makokezi Primary School does not have the facilities or the funds to accommodate this.
A Grade 8 class typically accommodates 40 pupils, a desk roughly costs 30,000MWK equivalent to £30, we aim to raise funds with the hope of helping them overcome this barrier.
