Chinese Shar Pei are an ancient and challenging breed that has suffered significantly from irresponsible and unethical breeding practices over the years; and the price of ignorance has been exceedingly high. The specific needs and health issues combined with general misunderstanding of breed traits and typical behaviours have resulted in too many pei surrendered or dumped in pounds across Australia. Owning and rehabilitating pei is not for the faint hearted or inexperienced handler - and I'd venture a guess that a cocky handler will get handed his pants a few times before he learns he doesn't know as much as he thought he did. Pei owners and fanciers tend to end up on an endless quest to learn more about and better support this fascinating breed.
Rainy Day Rescue works closely with and is grateful for the amazing support of a network of dedicated Pei People to combine breed specific and special needs resources and expertise to rescue Shar Pei across Australia who may not otherwise have a chance at successful rehabilitation and rehoming.
By supporting the RDR Shar Pei Club, you will be helping us reach more dogs in need - providing them with the necessary veterinary work to ensure that they are as healthy as they can be, and finding them loving homes to spend the remainder of their lives in peace and comfort.
