Ballet Folklórico Raices Mexicanas de Detroit is a not for profit dance group serving Southeastern Michigan since 1981. This group provides Mexican dance instruction and cultural education to children ages 6-adult.
Since our inception, Raices Mexicanas has seen hundreds of young people grow in our Mexican culture through folk dance. Our group provides a safe place for children to learn not only dance, but also discipline, self-confidence, excellence and teamwork. These characteristics are evidenced in their personal lives as well -- nearly every dancer that has participated in Raices Mexicanas has graduated high school, with many going on to finish college.
We are raising money to send 15 children (and 5 chaperones) to the Academia de Danza (ACADEZ) Summer Workshops in Texas June. Lodging, airfare, meals and supplies will be approximately $15,000. We are seeking assistance from you, the private donor, as well as writing grants and seeking corporate sponsorship.
In years past, we have had the privilege of attending dance conferences and the experience has been priceless. Our students learn from Master instructors from Mexico and come back changed: their technical dance skills are enhanced, and the pride in themselves and in our Mexican culture is elevated.
We are grateful for every dollar raised and appreciate your consideration and support.
