My name is Ragini dasi , I am 60 years old. I joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 1973 in Paris, France. I was mostly engaged in the French BBT in translating Srila Prabhupada's books.
His Holiness Indradyumna Maharaja very mercifully proposed me to raise funds for me, having heard of a difficult situation I'm facing these past 3.5 years and most acutely these past 2 months.
I have what is called "chronicle cancer" since september 2012. Originally a breast cancer it is now metastasized to the retina (so I cannot read anymore or with very much difficulties), the spine, the meninx and last tumor to appear about 15 months ago was a brain tumor. The only one that has been able to be operated was a tumor under arm and shoulder blade.
Unfortunately, a year ago terrible pains appeared on my right hip, very quickly I couldn't hardly walk anymore. Arthrosis of the hip and of course surgery to replace by a prosthesis.
This added to the cancer became really so over difficult to manage! Although I really take this cancer as a blessing to take real deep shelter of Sri Krsna with the loving guidance of my spiritual master Srila Prabhupada and the help of so many Godbrothers and Godsisters, the body has its limits … So it was decided to operate on April 26th 2016.
It went more or less ok … but the surgeon admitted (!) to have made a mistake, the femur broke. So a few days later, on May 6th, 2016, 10 days later, I had to be operated again, it has been hell.
Maharaja happened to call me to know how I was doing while in rehab. He asked me what was my big worry at the moment. Seing how my body was behaving after these 2 surgeries considering already my weak condition (very low blood cells) and speaking every day with the physiotherapist, I was very worried about moving in the apartment where I live alone and especially in my bathroom. I have a bathtub and it is quite impossible to climb there safely, my fear of falling worries me. The solution is to transform it into a shower with easier access. I also need to have a number of support structures built throughout my apartment to ensure I don't fall when I move around, as well as an emergancy alert system throughout my dwelling to inform others if I am hurt and cannot move. Again, I live alone in my apartment.
I maintain with a very modest State pension which just allows me to pay regular bills and daily expenses. So such work in my apartment is not possible to even envisage. That is the reason why Maharaja has thought of raising funds through GoFundMe.
Every day is very challenging regarding my health, much pains are appearing just due to the fact that I have to move in ways harmful to my skeleton, to my bones and it makes things worse, adding the pains of cancer and the pains of the hip 2 surgeries. I'm already under morphine, although I try to take as less as possible, like when it makes it even impossible to get some rest at night.
I am overwhelmed to think of the kindness of human beings not even knowing me and who could consider to help me from their heart! I immensely thank everyone who could do something and I'm definitely deeply moved.
My gratitude to Sri Krsna, who has protected and encouraged me so much these past years -and all my life!- has no limits! I pray every day so He protects and encourages all human beings turning to Him for shelter!
I take shelter at the lotus feet of my beloved spiritual master who supports me constantly, showing me the path and giving me the strength day after day! And my love also goes to all the devotees showing me so much affection and mercy, calling me, when possible visiting me: without their help, the sufferings would be unbearable physically and morally!
