Dear Friends and Family,
My birthday is tomorrow, June 15, and instead of getting me a gift you could help me with this! I am excited to let you know that I am participating in a delegation to El Salvador this summer! The Radical Roots delegation is an opportunity for young people who are part of the Central American diaspora to connect with El Salvador’s culture, revolutionary history and learn directly from social movement leaders about the current realities in El Salvador. I’m going with CISPES, a U.S.-based solidarity organization that was founded in 1980 to help build a grassroots movement against U.S. involvement in and support for the Salvadoran military’s brutal war on the people. Since the war ended, CISPES has continued to accompany the Salvadoran social movement in their struggle for justice and to organize against ongoing U.S. intervention in Central America.
As you know I was raised in El Salvador from the ages of 2 to 12. Since we moved to the US in 2008, I have not had the opportunity to visit again. I’m excited to be able to go in this special delegation to learn about the amazing grass root efforts by activists in El Salvador. We will meet activists from the effort to repeal the abortion ban, water right activists, and anti-mining activists. I am reaching out to you to ask for your support to participate in the delegation. In order to pay for the cost of the delegation and travel expenses, I have a goal of raising $600. Your support would be so amazing! Anything over the goal will go towards donations to the grass root orgs!
