24 year old Rachael Connally, daughter of SAFD FF/Paramedic Reagan Connally was involved in a hit and run vehicle accident resulting in a head on collison with another vehicle on Valentine's Day 2017.  Rachael has been in ICU since then.  She is suffering from mulitple limb fractures and internal injuries that have required several surgeries.  Rachael will be recovering at University Hospital for several more weeks and has months of healing, rehabilitation and physical therapy ahead of her.
Rachael had recently graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Wildlife Biology.  Unfortunately, she will not be able to work in her field for several months.  We are asking for donations to defray the mountain of medical bills, medical equipment, and other "regular" bills.
All donations made will go directly to Rachael to assist her with all the expenses mentioned above.
We thank you in advance for your donations, prayers and well wishes.

Hello everyone!

I'm writing this update to say thank you to everyone who has donated to help me in my recovery! Over 200 people have donated and I am so amazed and uplifted to see so many people, both friends & family and strangers, extend such kindness to me. I'm writing here because it is the only way that I can extend my thanks to such a large number of people. I know that I couldn't have made it out of the hospital without the love and support of my friends and family and everyone else supporting me. This road to recovery has been long and difficult so far, and I've still got a few more months of physical therapy and doctor's visits before I'm back on my feet again. But, knowing that so many people have offered their support to me makes it easier to maintain a positive outlook through this ordeal.

I've been at home for two weeks so far and my abdominal wound is less that one inch opened, I'm meeting with the orthopedic surgeons who operated on my ankles for a follow up tomorrow, and I'm getting around in my wheelchair fairly well. Things are looking up for now and hopefully we'll receive good news from the doctors tomorrow regarding my ankles & wrist. Until then, I'm counting down the days until I can start to learn to walk again in May!

Thanks again everyone! I appreciate all your support!

Hey, everybody! After almost a month in medical care, I'm finally home!

After being sent back to the hospital due to a high fever and abdominal pain, we had to stay overnight in an acute care room. The doctors were able to find a seroma that had a build-up of fluid in my abdomen that they suspected may have caused the fever. They tested this fluid and my blood for infection and were able to confirm that I am infection-free. Thankfully, they were able to remove the IV and release me from the hospital yesterday!

Now that I am home, we have begun the tedious project of figuring out how to maneuver a wheelchair around the house. Insurance supplied us with a few items but we still have a list of things we need to purchase to make the house more functional for my injuries. Nevertheless, it is so much more relaxing and comfortable to be at home rather than in a hospital bed.

Unfortunately, we still have not heard of any progress made on the case of locating whoever hit me. However, I believe SAPD is working as well as they can to gather evidence and witnesses for their investigation.

If any of my friends or family would like to visit me at home, please call or text or message me before coming! We'd love to have people visit, but with all the animals and my younger siblings here, it's good to know who to expect.

Thanks again to all of y'all for supporting me and helping me through this. I really appreciate the kindness of everyone who has gotten involved to help. And I especially appreciate the extreme sacrifices my family has had to make to make this easier on me.

Thanks again!
