Rachel's Recovery Car Fund
This is a very hard thing for a father to write.
On December 30, 2015 my 23 year old daughter Rachel was on her way home to Binghamton, NY, where she is currently finishing her Master's in Social Work. She had spent the holiday with us in Greenport. Halfway through her trip, she stopped for gas in East Stroudsburg, PA. It was here that Rachel's car was stolen... with her in it.
For just under two hours she was held against her will with a man who struck her and threatened her life, forcing her to drive south with him to Virginia. Being the strong woman that she is, she was able to resist and escape once they stopped again for fuel.
Rachel got her car back the next day after the carjacker crashed it, fleeing from police in a high speed chase. While it is driveable, we are trying to raise money to get her a vehicle that she can once again feel safe in. This car holds so many awful memories for my daughter, brining her to tears every time she goes to drive it.
It is in our hopes that a new vehicle could help ease the burden of this painful experience, helping her to move forward. Any and all donations will go directly toward defraying the cost of another vehicle - something that we would not be able to bear on our own, no matter how much we wish we could.
Your thoughtfulness and generosity truly mean more to our family than you could ever understand.
Please contact me any time for anymore information you may need. Thank you in advance for all your help and generosity.
I feel so happy for you that you cannot understand the trauma this brave young woman is feeling. It must mean your life is charmed and so very safe. You don't know her or her family to know the situation. The car was damaged and needs repairing. Is it totalled? Don't know. What I do know is this family is the salt of the earth. Good people who would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it even if they didn't have another. This is about the choice to be compassionate not judgmental!
This is terrifying to hear. I'm from Binghamton originally. I now live in Wantagh (Nassau Co) but I drive up to Binghamton often, sometimes by myself with my two children. Please feel free to message me on Facebook. My family still lives in Binghamton, so if she ever needs anything, they would be happy to help her.
God bless your courage, and thank god your safe. All the best to you
