Help AI6Lagos Democratize AI Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has risen to the forefront of public discourse in recent years and the breakthrough in AI has been felt on an accelerated development path which has been further propelled by innovations in other frontier technologies, including cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, and virtual reality. As a convergence of the widening spectrum of frontier technologies, AI has garnered the potential to bring new possibilities for global development and societal change. The transformative power of AI crosses all economic and social sectors, including education. In particular, AI has the potential to accelerate the process of achieving SDG4. It promises to reduce barriers to access education, automate management processes, analyse learning patterns and optimize learning processes with a view to improving learning outcomes. 

However, the rapid growth in AI technologies will significantly impact the skills required by different sectors and already today, there is a major skill gap in the labour market when it comes to AI-related jobs and skills. AI Saturdays seeks to provide a platform for educators globally to create a local community of enthusiasts, professionals and students to facilitate and address this skill gap to ensure that future graduates will meet the requirements of the job market and foster an AI-literate citizenry.

AI Saturdays Lagos is one of the various AI Saturdays communities - located in Lagos, Nigeria. We are a community that empowers people to learn Artificial Intelligence with the mission to make this knowledge at the same quality and rigour of the world’s best universities and also accessible to anyone through structured free-to-attend study groups. Our classes are in cohorts and each cohort is 16 weeks of studies (every Saturday). 

We have successfully run two cohorts in 2018 with significant impact - https://medium.com/ai-saturdays/bridging-the-artificial-intelligence-ai-gaps-with-ai6-9a5cf0b910f8.  Our numbers are growing, as well as our students who have demanded two separate classes targeting Beginner students (Machine Learning) and Intermediate students (Deep Learning). We, however, have been unable to secure funds to pay for a venue for the 2019 cohorts and that is why we need your help.

We have found a suitable venue (with 2 classrooms) which costs 534 USD per Saturday (See receipt below). We are hereby crowd-sourcing for 8000 USD which will help us comfortably offer our classes to about 180 students every week for 16 weeks.
