Taking Back Control

‘Taking Back Control’ is a short anti-Brexit film which highlights the inherent flaws in the push for British independence from Europe.

Using four intercut monologues to explore the issues of the Brexit debate, ‘Taking Back Control’ is a dark comedy written by award-winning Birmingham stage and screen writer, Alexandra Taylor . Director Joe Betteridge has taken each character and placed them in a setting which contrasts their pro-Brexit tirades.

- Kev (played by Roger Harding) is a patriotic Brexiteer determined to throw off the shackles of Brussels, yet he relinquishes his own personal control to a strict dominatrix.
- Carol (played by Alex Lacey) is a proud Brummie who fears the homogenising influence of London, even though she’s hiding her own identity under clown makeup and a wig.
- Dora (played by Alex Kapila) wants to control the flow of people in nearby streets down her own road, but can’t keep control of the dogs she walks for a living.
- Life model Nick (played by Jack McBride) can barely move while pensioners draw him, yet goes to ridiculous lengths to retain his independence from his communally-minded housemates.

Two of the monologues (Nick and Carol) have already been shot, with the remaining two due to be filmed in October 2018, and editing to be completed by the end of the year.

The film is a passion project, being funded completely out of the writer’s pocket, with all cast and crew giving their time for free. We are raising money to cover location fees (£80), travel costs (£70) and the purchase of props (£50).
