Queer/Trans Self Defense Education
Donation protected
Since the election, there have been many concerned people circulating similar questions:
"What next?"
"How can I been a good Ally?”
“What can I do to promote the safety and well being of marginalized communities?”
"How can I support Queer, Trans, and People of Color right now?"
This fund has been set up as a way to raise money for Queer and Trans, (with a priority to P.O.C.) people to obtain education and tools for community safety and personal self defense.
The Trans Lifeline, a crisis and suicide prevention resource, reported over 300 calls in the first 24 hours after the election results. In addition to this, there has been widespread information that multiple trans people, including teenagers, have committed suicide in the face of a Trump and Pence presidency. Among the reasons for calls and texts to other hotlines, the terms "LGBTQ" and "scared" where prevalent markers of a need for resources. Reports of attacks and harassment from across the country have shown these fears to be justified.
On going classes and trainings are expensive (an upwards of $25-100 per person at many gyms), so please donate what you can to materially support those deeply impacted on a daily basis by racist, transphobic, islamophobic, and other bigoted violence. This fundraiser is a way to push against that fear - by empowering LGBTQ people and Queer and Trans People of Color to gain confidence in their self-defense skills and have access to materials that make them feel strong and more prepared for the future.
