Expand Queer Beer Brewing

Watch this performance of "Makin' Beer" and read on.

Queers Makin' Beers - Radical Homebrew
has been making beer and educating a new generation of brewers since 2015! It's huge... so huge we must reach out for your support to fund the revolution. Is your heart made of golden homebrew?  YASSSSS!

Our goal is to raise $15,000. With this, we will :

1. Purchase more efficient equipment.
2. Install a wastewater repurposing system.
3. Provide $500 in start-up funding to 4 new chapters around the US.
4. Keep QMB free and accessible to all.
5. Ensure that Queers Makin' Beers is here for years to come.

Queers Makin' Beers
is a free, community resource made up of queer people teaching their communities how to make beer! QMB is a positive and spirited platform that gives less visible identities representation in brewing by simply making great beer, being ourselves, and participating in local community events.
We formed in July of 2015 and now have over 540 members  with people joining almost every day. Our mission is to educate ourselves and others about all things to do with homebrew. The equipment we have is communal and available to all of our members at no charge. QMB has been hugely successful in creating a really friendly and comfortable environment for learning and sharing our passion for brewing. We have expanded rapidly and invested over $6,000 in equipment and maitenance of this radical club. In this process we have become a well-known component of the local beer community, bringing new diversity of people and thought. Community is what motivates us (and kegs of beer).
Our club was started by a biologist (Rebecca) and an engineer (Kate) with very little experience or equipment. In less than two years we have become talented beer-makers. Recently, we won our first competition at Benoit-Casper Brewing! Our beer is good. QMB has donated beer to 5 charities to date and provided equipment and humans to serve that beer. This is so awesome and we want to do more of it. We have officially grown to a size that requires a greater source of support than we as individuals can afford. That's rad. We want to keep growing. Help us do more!

We have worked very hard and your dollars will go far, literally, by funding new chapters across the country.
Here is what your $$ can accomplish:

$25 fills our CO2 tank or a propane tank.
$50 pays for a 5 gallon batch of beer.
$100 sends a member to beer tasting school.
$200 pays our web fees for a year.
$500 starts a new club in a new city.

Any amount gets queer folks into the brewing community with access to our, now, very educated group of brewers. We are eternally grateful to our fans and all the support we have received from the local beer community. Become part of that community and share our stoke and our love of fresh beer!!

     ---- A Photographic Journey into Beer-Making----

Pouring extract into the boil. Extract brews use grain extracts rather than whole grains. This takes less time but generally creates simpler flavors.

All-grain brews use whole grains and require a long steeping process called the mash. We mash in a cooler to maintain proper temperature for sugar conversion.

Just smiling about the mash.

These whole flower hops were collected in the wild in Hopland, California. Hopland was known for growing hops prior to prohibition and feral patches of plants still remain.

Kate checking the original gravity on a red ale. Gravity readings tell you how much sugar is available for alcohol fermentation. This is used to calculate final alcohol by volume, ABV.

Our first year anniversary brew, July 2, 2016!

                            Costume making for the video!

Beer is fermented in sanitized containers that exclude oxygen. These carboys are wrapped in towels to protect the beer from sunlight which "skunks" beer. Plastic airlocks are used to allow carbon dioxide to escape.

Finished beer can be bottled...

                                                ...or kegged.

Cheers! QMB beer at a Save the Waves fundraiser.
