My name is Lucia Florez and I´m currently in the journey of finishing my documentary film about Russian LGBTIQ immigration, due to the horrific persecutions and "purges" going on in this country.
This film (title still to be defined) will tell the story of Anton, a Russian boy in the process of becoming a trans woman, in his process of applying to political asylum after fleeing Russia. With the help of Lyosha, a queer activist who's already an asylee, as he learns to navigate what it means to be an immigrant in a very different world of New York City, after escaping from a past traumatic experience.
This documentary will tell stories that are very rarely portrayed by the media and will expose an uncomfortable truth about discrimination, intolerance and violence but mainly about survival and resilience in search for freedom and justice. It is important to complete and share this project because of the endangered minority that it serves. It also displays the the strength and determination of the characters which will undeniably inspire other queer youth that feel that they have to fight to create their space in this world.
The funds hopefully obtained from this campaign will be used to cover the remaining production costs, post production and distribution. The film will have animation to illustrate the character´s backstory, it will also be originally scored. Both of these items represent costs. After it is finished, the idea is to distribute the film in different festivals, which also represents another significant cost. In order to continue this adventure, the funds are needed as soon as possible to create the piece of work i believe this story deserves.
The animation will be done by my lovely and talented brother, Ignacio Florez , which makes the process extra special. Here´s a sample of the storyboard.
The potential support would mean the world to me, since this project holds a very personal space in my heart. I have experience working with LGBTIQ characters back home in Perú with an independent project - Siete y Cuarto - and Im aware how people are in the need of these stories whilst struggling with their own personal struggles. Being a queer immigrant filmmaker, these stories move me deeply, they resonate with my own story and Im positive that it will with a lot of people both from inside and outside the LGBTIQ, throughout the world.

Mi nombre es Lucia Florez y me encuentro terminando mi ultimo documental sobre migración LGBTIQ Rusa, debido a las horribles persecuciones y “purgas” que están sucediendo actualmente en este país.
En este docu (el título aún está por definirse) se va a contar la historia de Anton, un chico ruso en camino a convertirse en una mujer trans, y su proceso para ser un asilado político en US. Con la ayuda de Lyosha, un activista queer que ya obtuvo su asilo político, va a aprender a navegar lo que significa ser un imigrante en un país tan diferente, luego de haber escapado una experiencia traumática.
Este documental va a contar las historias que pocas veces los medios sacan, exponiendo una verdad incómoda sobre discriminación, intolerancia y violencia, pero sobre todo de supervivencia y resilencia en la búsqueda de libertad y justicia. Es importante terminar y compartir este proyecto no solo porque va a servirle a una minoría que está en peligro, pero porque la fuerza y determinación en los personajes va a inspirar a la juventud LGBTIQ a lo largo del mundo que siente que tiene que luchar para crear su propio espacio en el mundo,
Los fondos obtenidos a través de esta campaña van a utilizarse para cubrir los costos de producción que aún quedan, pero sobre todo para cubrir post producción. La película va a tener aniamción para ilustrar el pasado de los personajes y también va a tener música original. Ambos costos representativos. La idea es que también se pueda mover por un circuito de festivales, lo cual también es otro egreso significativo. Para poder continuar con esta aventura, los fondos se necesitarían lo antes posible.
La animación va a ser hecha por mi hermano muy talentoso y lindo, Ignacio Florez, lo cual hace de este proyecto más especial.
La ayuda potencial significaría el mundo para mi, porque este proyecto ocupa un espacio muy personal en mi vida. Tengo experiencia trabajando con personajes LGBTIQ en el Perú con un proyecto independiente que hice llamado Siete y Cuarto , y se lo que significa para muchos contar con historias como estas como referente. Siendo una inmigrante queer, estas historias me mueven mucho y resuenan con mi propia vida, y estoy segura que lo harán con muchas más.
