Quaker UP! at the World Festival!
Donation protected
Quaker UP! is an all-girls team that competes each year in the FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition. This year, of 147 teams in the NY Western Region (Jamestown to Syracuse), we were one of 2 to advance to the World Festival. This 4-day competition is an incredible opportunity for our girls to build new skills and interact with other teams from all over the world. We expect the total costs for the team members, coaches, and families to potentially approach $17,000. We would really appreciate your help so that we can be part of this great event.
For those of you not familiar with First Lego League, FLL teams attempt to solve real world problems, technology problems, and learn teamwork and co-opertition. This year our challenge was to identify a real world problem where humans and animals interact, then propose a feasible, practical solution. After researching several ideas we decided to address 3 problems that guide dog users face:
1. People and noises can distract the dog and take their focus away from the owner's voice.
2. The apps they use for guidance do not track or easily re-route for things like sidewalk construction and other obstructions.
3. When carrying something with their right hand, they have much difficulty waking up their phone to give voice commands.
Our technology problem was to design, build, and program a robot to perform a series of missions on a 4 x 8 playing field.

Thank you for your consideration. We will let you know how we are doing!
