Patrick & Roxana Mission Trip
My wife Roxana and I have a heart for missions, especially for international missions. Roxana and I first met through Youth With A Mission in Creel, Chihuahua, Mexico in 2005. We met briefly as Roxana was studying in Sinaloa, Mexico and I was studying in Creel, Chihuahua, Mexico (I learned Spanish during this time). Our groups crossed paths for a day and we got to spend a few hours getting to know one another. After graduating our courses we were not able to meet back up but we kept in touch and remained interested in one another. Roxana had to return home to San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico and I returned to my hometown of Houston, Texas. Shortly after, I moved to Leeds, Alabama for almost a year and helped to take care of my grandfather who was under hospice care until his death.
Afterwards, I journeyed down to San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico for Christmas to reunite with Roxana and get to know her family. After spending a month with her family and with the local YWAM base we had to part ways once again. But before having departed I had a serious conversation with Roxana's family and expressed my interest in returning to marry her, which was unbeknownst to her.
Six months later I packed up all of my belongings and headed back to San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico to live and to get married. On my birthday in March of 2005 I proposed to Roxana and she said yes! We were married in August of 2005. During our time together in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico we occasionally worked with YWAM in sharing the Gospel through dramas, and evangelism. We remained active within our local church and lived on property preparing the church grounds for a drug & alcohol rehabilitation center which eventually became a private Christian School instead. We also had the opportunity to begin a house church in a small indigenous community about 2 hours away the mountains. And at times we assisted other local missionaries in their ministries.
Eventually we obtained Roxana's US Visa so that we could travel together and that every time I had to leave Mexico and return to the US I did not have to do so alone. We have been stateside since March of 2009 and have not been able to be involved in international missions as often as we'd like. In the summer of 2013 we had the privilege of going to Germany with our church to host a baseball camp. At this time we had 3 small children 2, 4, and 6 years old. God provided the time off from work, childcare for all three kids, and full provision for both Roxana and I to go on the German Mission Trip. That trip was a blessing. We had a challenging team but were able to work through our difficulties while leading by example and we even won first place.
We are thankful to be part of Crossroads Baptist Church in The Woodlands, TX who is very active in missions and is dedicated to the teaching and preaching of the Gospel. Not only is Crossroads involved in international missions, but local missions and outreach as well. But one of Crossroads goals is to teach that we should start at home and live a missional life on a day to day basis in accordance with the Bible. Local and international missions are great but we need to have the right motives in participating, not just seeking an experience or an emotional or spiritual high.
We were unable to participate in any international mission trips in 2014 but this year God has put on mine and Roxana's heart to go on the Cuba Mission Trip together. Our team will be working with three churches in different areas, two that Crossroads has worked with before and one new one.
Our team efforts this year will focus on:
Evangelism campaigns,
Children’s Ministry training,
Youth MIME training, and
Identify needs and opportunities to support discipleship and Church Planting efforts.
This year will be mine and Roxana's first Mission Trip to Cuba with Crossroads. The estimated mission trip cost is $2,000 per person. A deposit of $800 ($1,600 combined) is due April 14, 2015. The remaining balance of $1,200 ($2,400 combined) is due May 20, 2015. We ask that you prayerfully consider supporting us as we join Crossroads in their work and support of God’s call in ministering to our church partners in Cuba.
Thank you and God Bless You.
